The TP-Link VIGI InSight S385PI is an 8MP (4K) outdoor IR panoramic bullet camera whose 1.65 mm lens covers a 180° horizontal view in a single image. It adds red-blue warning lights and a speaker for Active Defence, four IR LEDs rated to 20 m in TP-Link's laboratory tests, audio and alarm in/out terminals, people and vehicle analytics, 802.3at PoE and an IP67, IK10 metal housing.

InSight S385PI overview

TP-Link's line for the VIGI InSight S385PI is 'One Shot, Huge Vision'. It is an 8MP outdoor bullet with a panoramic (PI) lens instead of a standard fixed or varifocal one: a 1.65 mm F2.0 lens that covers 180° horizontally, 86° vertically and 180° diagonally. TP-Link's argument is that general cameras need multiple units to cover blind spots in large spaces such as hotel lobbies, playgrounds, intersections and warehouses, and that a single 180° 4K panoramic camera reduces installation, deployment and maintenance costs while covering more area. The trade-off for that width is shorter DORI distances: TP-Link lists 44 m detect, 18.33 m observe, 8.8 m recognise and 4.4 m identify.

The 1/2.7" progressive scan CMOS sensor delivers up to 3840 x 2160, at up to 25 fps on 50 Hz or 30 fps on 60 Hz, and 20 fps when the image is rotated 90° or 270°. Main-stream encoding is H.265+, H.265, H.264+ or H.264 at 256 Kbps to 8 Mbps. TP-Link says H.265+ saves 57.5% and 15% more storage space than H.264 and H.265; it calculated this in laboratory testing with a 3MP VIGI camera and notes performance varies with the amount of activity recorded, resolution and other variables. The S385PI is an IR camera, not a full-colour one: four 850 nm IR LEDs light the scene to 20 m, a range TP-Link bases on laboratory testing that is not guaranteed and will vary with client limitations and environmental factors. Minimum illumination is 0.005 lux, or 0 lux with IR. Image tools include 120 dB True WDR, BLC, 3D DNR, HLC and Smart IR, four privacy masks and up to four ROI regions.

Active Defence is central to this model. TP-Link describes it as a monitoring feature that uses deep learning algorithms or external alarm devices to trigger flashing lights and loud sounds in real time to deter intruders, and it supports user-created custom voice audio. Instead of white light, the S385PI uses red-blue warning lights, which TP-Link says are more effective than white lights and create a strong deterrent when paired with audio alarms. Alarm linkage covers memory card recording, FTP upload, an alarm output device, push notifications, an alarm server, Active Defence sound and light alarms, and email. When an AI function or an external alarm device triggers an event, alerts are sent to your phone; TP-Link notes that AI-triggered notifications support playback of the specific event clip, while notifications from external alarm devices support live view only.

For integration there are audio in/out and alarm in/out ports, which TP-Link says enable connection to external alarm or access control devices, alongside a built-in microphone (5 m radius) and built-in speaker. Human and vehicle classification distinguishes people and vehicles from moving animals, falling leaves and changing lights, and people and vehicle analytics lets you search by attributes such as hair length, upper body colour and vehicle type; that analytics feature must be used with VIGI specified software. Smart events include intrusion, line-crossing, region entering and exiting, object abandoned and removal, loitering, people, vehicle, abnormal sound and scene change detection. Power is 802.3at PoE (Class 4, maximum 21 W) or 12 V DC (maximum 18 W). The metal bullet is rated IP67 weatherproof and IK10 vandal proof, measures 266 x 100 x 101 mm, weighs 1.01 kg and operates from -30 to 60 °C. It is managed with the VIGI App, VIGI Security Manager, Web UI, VIGI VMS or VIGI Cloud VMS. microSD cards up to 512 GB are supported; TP-Link notes the microSD card and pole mounting kits are not included.
