The TP-Link IES206G is an Omada 6-port Gigabit industrial easy managed switch (hardware V1) with four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, one Gigabit combo RJ45/SFP slot and one Gigabit SFP slot. It is a non-PoE switch built for harsh sites: -40 to 75 C operation, an IP40 aluminium case, 9.6-60 V 1+1 redundant DC input, 6 kV Ethernet surge protection and DIN-rail or wall mounting, with VLAN, QoS, STP/RSTP and Omada cloud management.

IES206G overview

The IES206G is TP-Link's Omada 6-port Gigabit industrial easy managed switch, shown on TP-Link Australia's site as hardware version V1. TP-Link describes it as a professional industrial-grade design, and the specification backs that up: an operating range of -40 to 75 C (-40 to 167 F), storage from -40 to 85 C, 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, an IP40 aluminium casing and a fanless build. It is intended for places where an office switch would not survive, such as control cabinets, roadside and utility enclosures, factory floors and transport installations, and it is mounted on a DIN rail or a wall using the bracket and plates supplied in the box.

Its six Gigabit ports are split as four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, one Gigabit combo RJ45/SFP slot and one dedicated Gigabit SFP slot, all with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX. That mix lets the switch connect local copper devices such as PLCs, cameras or controllers while running one or two fibre links back to the network, which is useful when the cabinet is far from the core. The IES206G does not supply PoE; TP-Link's PoE version of this design is the IES206GPP, which adds 802.3af/at/bt PoE on its four RJ45 ports. Switching capacity is 12 Gbps and the packet forwarding rate is 8.93 Mpps, with an 8K MAC address table, 4 Mbit packet buffer, 15 KB jumbo frames, 64 Mbit flash and store-and-forward transmission.

Power is designed for industrial supplies. The IES206G accepts 9.6 to 60 V DC on 1+1 redundant (dual) inputs, with overload current, overload voltage and reverse polarity protection, plus a fault relay rated 24 V / 1 A maximum (normally closed contact) that can signal a power or link problem to an alarm system. TP-Link lists maximum power consumption of 3.62 W at 12 VDC, 3.57 W at 24 VDC and 5.09 W at 48 VDC, and maximum heat dissipation of 17.31 BTU/hr at 48 VDC. Protection figures are ±6 kV common-mode surge protection on the Ethernet ports, ±4 kV on the DC power inputs, and ESD protection of ±8 kV air and ±6 kV contact. The datasheet lists IEC 61000-4-2/3/4/5/6/8 EMC testing, EN 55032/35, EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4, along with shock (IEC 60068-2-27), freefall (IEC 60068-2-32) and vibration (IEC 60068-2-6) testing, and an MTBF of 899,526 hours at 25 C. Certification is CE and FCC.

As an easy managed switch, the IES206G covers the features an edge cabinet usually needs: MTU, port-based and 802.1Q tag VLANs (up to 32 VLAN groups, 4K VIDs), 802.1p/DSCP QoS with 8 priority queues and WRR scheduling, port-based rate limiting, storm control for broadcast, multicast and unknown unicast traffic, static link aggregation (up to 2 groups of up to 4 ports), STP and RSTP, loopback detection, 802.3x flow control, port mirroring, IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping with fast leave and 802.1ab LLDP. Management is by web GUI with DHCP client, cable diagnostics and Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for SFP modules. With an Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controller it joins Omada SDN for automatic device discovery, batch configuration, batch firmware upgrades, unified configuration, cloud access and the Omada app; TP-Link notes that Zero-Touch Provisioning requires Omada Central (Standard or Essentials). It measures 129 x 95 x 45 mm and weighs 0.54 kg.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the IES206G from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

Four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, one Gigabit combo RJ45/SFP slot and one Gigabit SFP slot, for six Gigabit ports in total.

No. The IES206G does not supply PoE. TP-Link's IES206GPP is the PoE version, with one PoE++ and three PoE+ ports and a PoE budget of up to 120 W depending on the DC input.

TP-Link lists an operating temperature of -40 to 75 C (-40 to 167 F) and storage from -40 to 85 C, at 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity.

By 9.6 to 60 V DC through 1+1 redundant (dual) power inputs, with overload current, overload voltage and reverse polarity protection. It does not use a mains power adapter.

The fault relay is rated 24 V / 1 A maximum with a normally closed contact, so it can be wired to an external alarm to signal a fault.

On a DIN rail or a wall. A DIN-rail mounting bracket and wall-mounting plates are included in the box.

Yes. It is fanless with an IP40 aluminium casing, so there are no fans to fail in a dusty cabinet.

No for basic use: it has a web-based GUI. Centralised cloud management, automatic device discovery, batch configuration and the Omada app require an Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controller. Zero-Touch Provisioning requires Omada Central.

802.1Q tag VLAN (up to 32 VLAN groups), 802.1p/DSCP QoS with 8 queues, storm control, static link aggregation, STP/RSTP, loopback detection, port mirroring, IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping and LLDP.

TP-Link lists maximum power consumption of 3.62 W at 12 VDC, 3.57 W at 24 VDC and 5.09 W at 48 VDC.
