Figures from Cisco's official data sheet.

The Cisco IE-3300-8T2S-E in depth

Modular industrial Gigabit switching

The Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series is a compact, modular DIN-rail switch for industrial and extended enterprise sites. The IE-3300-8T2S-E starts with 8 copper Gigabit ports and 2 Gigabit SFP uplinks, and one expansion module can take it to 26 Gigabit ports as the site grows.

Hardened for the plant floor and the roadside

It is fanless with no moving parts, takes redundant DC inputs from 9.6 to 60VDC and carries industrial, substation, railway and hazardous location certifications. REP, Fast REP and PROFINET MRP rings keep traffic flowing if a link fails, and SwapDrive makes replacing a failed unit a zero-configuration job.

Visibility and edge compute for OT

Cisco IOS XE brings secure boot, MACsec-128 and Full Flexible NetFlow, while IOx can host Docker applications, Cisco Cyber Vision for asset visibility, or Secure Equipment Access for remote access. Upgrading to Network Advantage adds dynamic routing such as OSPF and BGP.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco IE-3300-8T2S-E from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

The base unit has 10 ports (8 GE copper and 2 GE SFP). Adding a 16-port IE3300 expansion module such as the IEM-3300-16T= brings the total to 26 ports.

No. Cisco lists PoE as not applicable for the 8T2S; the PoE base model is the IE-3300-8P2S, and PoE expansion modules only work with a PoE base switch.

The -E suffix means Network Essentials, a perpetual licence with Layer 2 switching, inter-VLAN and static routing, and the industrial features. Network Advantage (IE3300-NW-A=) adds OSPF, BGP, EIGRP and MACsec-256. Cisco Catalyst Center licences are optional add-ons.

It has redundant DC inputs rated 9.6 to 60VDC, a maximum input current of 3.8A and 23W power consumption. Cisco lists DIN-rail supplies such as the PWR-IE65W-PC-AC= for the IE3300.

Cisco rates it for -40 to 75°C in a fan or blower-equipped enclosure, -40 to 70°C in a vented enclosure and -40 to 60°C in a sealed enclosure.
