AcuSense DVR FAQ — iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT

What is the Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT and what makes it an AcuSense DVR?

The iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT is a 16-channel, 1U rack-mount Turbo HD DVR from Hikvision's AcuSense series. AcuSense is Hikvision's deep-learning motion detection 2.0 technology that runs on all 16 analog channels simultaneously, classifying targets as human or vehicle and eliminating false alarms from leaves, animals, and lighting changes. It also supports perimeter protection, facial recognition, and AcuSearch intelligent playback — all driven by on-board deep learning algorithms.

How does AcuSense motion detection reduce false alarms on the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT?

AcuSense Motion Detection 2.0 uses a deep-learning neural network to distinguish humans and vehicles from non-threatening motion such as leaves blowing, insects, and light changes. All 16 analog channels benefit from this classification in real time. When a human or vehicle is detected, the DVR triggers an alarm; other motion is filtered out. The AcuSearch feature lets operators quickly locate footage by searching for a specific object type (person or vehicle) or event type across all recorded channels, dramatically reducing investigation time.

How many HDD bays does the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT have and what is the maximum storage capacity?

The iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT has 2 SATA HDD bays, each supporting up to 12 TB, giving a maximum raw storage capacity of 24 TB. The unit ships without HDDs (/XT designation = no pre-installed HDD). The two rear USB 3.0 ports provide fast external backup, while a front-panel USB 2.0 port allows on-site file export.

What camera signal types are compatible with the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT?

Each of the 16 analog BNC inputs auto-detects and supports five signal formats: HD-TVI, AHD, HDCVI, CVBS, and IP, making it compatible with virtually any existing HD camera. Supported resolutions include 8 MP HD-TVI at 12 fps, 5 MP at 20 fps, 4 MP at 25 fps, and 1080P at 30 fps. The unit also accepts up to 32 IP cameras each up to 8 MP for hybrid deployments.

What facial recognition capabilities does the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT offer?

The iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT supports facial recognition on up to 4 analog channels. Up to 16 face picture libraries can be stored, each backed up simultaneously to HDD and on-board flash memory, ensuring enrolled face data is retained even after a hard drive failure. The unit provides real-time face detection, face picture search, and 4-channel face picture comparison alarms.

What recording resolution and H.265 Pro+ storage savings does the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT deliver?

The iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT records at resolutions up to 8 MP at 8 fps, 5 MP at 12 fps, or 4 MP at 15 fps, down to CIF. H.265 Pro+ encoding can reduce storage requirements by up to 75% vs H.264, enabling longer retention on the same drives. Video bitrate is configurable from 32 Kbps to 10 Mbps per channel.

Professional Overview

The Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT is a 16-channel, 1U rack-mount Turbo HD Digital Video Recorder from the AcuSense series, designed for medium-to-large analog and hybrid IP security deployments that require deep-learning intelligence alongside the simplicity of a coaxial-cable infrastructure. Its 5 MP maximum analog resolution, H.265 Pro+ compression, and support for up to 32 IP cameras make it a highly flexible recording hub for retail outlets, warehouses, commercial buildings, car parks, and educational campuses.

On the recording side, the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT accepts all five major HD analog signal types (HD-TVI up to 8 MP, AHD up to 5 MP, HDCVI up to 8 MP, CVBS, and IP up to 8 MP) on each of its 16 BNC inputs. A single Gigabit Ethernet interface provides 256 Mbps total network bandwidth. Output options include a 4K HDMI port (3840 × 2160 @ 30 Hz) and simultaneous VGA, supporting dual-monitor live-view and playback. Synchronous playback of all 16 channels is supported, and decoding handles up to 24 × 1080P @ 30 fps from network sources.

The AcuSense intelligence platform delivers four layers of deep-learning capability: Motion Detection 2.0 (human/vehicle classification on all 16 channels to eliminate nuisance alarms), Perimeter Protection (virtual-line crossing and intrusion detection on up to 8 channels), Facial Recognition (up to 4 channels with 16 face libraries backed up to flash), and AcuSearch (object/event-type rapid playback search across 8 channels). Together these reduce operator workload and response times significantly compared with conventional motion detection.

Built in a compact 385 × 315 × 52 mm, 1U chassis weighing under 2.1 kg, the iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT operates across −10 °C to +55 °C on a 12 VDC supply consuming no more than 60 W. Two SATA bays accommodate HDDs up to 12 TB each for up to 24 TB total storage, and the /XT designation means the unit ships without a pre-installed drive. Hik-Connect remote monitoring, DDNS, ONVIF interoperability, and a three-year Australian warranty complete a solution trusted by security professionals. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.
