HB210-PRO

The TP-Link HB210 Pro is a BE3600 whole home mesh Wi-Fi 7 system unit with dual-band Wi-Fi 7: up to 2880 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with Multi-Link Operation and 4K-QAM. Each unit has a 2.5 GbE WAN/LAN port and a 2.5 GbE LAN port, works in router or access point mode, is EasyMesh compatible with wired or wireless backhaul, and is managed with the Aginet app, the web interface or TAUC, TR-069 and TR-369 by service providers. This listing is one unit.

HB210 Pro overview

The HB210 Pro is TP-Link's BE3600 whole home mesh Wi-Fi 7 system, sold here as a single unit. TP-Link says it leverages Wi-Fi 7 technology to deliver up to 3.6 Gbps Wi-Fi speeds with strong signals covering every corner of the home, across two bands. Wireless standards are IEEE 802.11be/ax/ac/n/a on 5 GHz and 802.11be/ax/n/g/b on 2.4 GHz, with signal rates of up to 2880 Mbps on 5 GHz (EHT160) and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (EHT40). TP-Link notes these are maximum physical rates derived from IEEE 802.11 specifications, and that throughput, coverage and number of connected devices vary with network conditions, client limitations and the environment. Wi-Fi 7 features listed are Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which TP-Link says achieves higher throughput for each device with lower latency and higher reliability via multi-link aggregation across two bands, 4K-QAM, which it says packs 120% more data than Wi-Fi 6, and Multi-RUs, which make full use of every resource. Use of Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6, MLO, 4K-QAM, Multi-RUs, OFDMA and WPA3 requires clients that support the same features, and TP-Link notes 160 MHz and 240 MHz bandwidths might not be available on 5 GHz in some regions because of regulatory restrictions.

Wired connections are multi-gig: each unit has one 10/100/1000/2500 Mbps WAN/LAN port and one 10/100/1000/2500 Mbps LAN port. TP-Link says this breaks through the 1 Gbps bottleneck with internet speeds up to 2.5 Gbps; its footnote states 2.5 Gbps or multi-gig internet speeds require compatible service plans and equipment, that only one port can serve as the WAN port at a time, and that actual throughput may vary with network conditions, client limitations, the cable rate and internet service provider factors. The HB210 Pro works in router mode, creating a private wireless and wired network, or access point mode for an existing wired network. WAN types are dynamic IP, static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP. TP-Link describes a high-performance antenna array with four high-gain antennas and beamforming to concentrate signal strength towards each device; the datasheet lists the antennas as internal. Enhanced by Wi-Fi 7, OFDMA and MLO, TP-Link says you can connect 200+ devices simultaneously, a figure it bases on testing conducted in TP-Link labs, noting actual results may vary.

For whole-home coverage, TP-Link says the HB210 Pro uses EasyMesh technology, with Ethernet backhaul (up to 2.5 Gbps connections) and wireless backhaul across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz working together to link each unit, and that you can add another HB210 Pro unit wherever you want. Its footnote states mesh networking requires two or more devices, that the product is compatible with standardised EasyMesh technology but has not obtained Wi-Fi EasyMesh certification, and that clients need to support 802.11k/v/r and may require additional setup, with performance varying by client device. All units form one unified network so a mobile device automatically connects to the fastest unit as you move through the home. Additional software features listed include band steering, airtime fairness, QoS, port forwarding, Wi-Fi schedule, wireless statistics, guest networks on each band, network diagnostics and traffic statistics, with NO-IP, DynDNS and TP-Link dynamic DNS in the datasheet.

Security covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 Personal encryption, which TP-Link says provides higher password safety and enhanced protection against brute-force attacks, plus DoS protection, an SPI firewall, IP and MAC address binding, parental controls and Multi-SSID; the page lists 2 Multi-SSIDs per band and the datasheet up to 3 SSIDs per band including the main SSID. A VPN server supports PPTP, OpenVPN and IPSec, with IPSec, PPTP and L2TP pass-through in the datasheet. Local management is through the web interface or the Aginet app, which needs a TP-Link ID with the device bound to it. Service providers get TR-069, TR-098, TR-181, TR-369, TR-111 and TR-143 remote management and TP-Link Aginet Unified Cloud (TAUC), which TP-Link says is based on TR-369. The datasheet lists 18 W maximum power consumption without the adapter and a 12 V 1.5 A adapter output; the unit measures 150 x 150 x 62 mm, operates from 0 to 40 °C, and the AU page lists RCM certification. In the box are one HB210 Pro unit, a power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and a quick installation guide.
