The Mercusys Halo H85X(2-pack) is an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 mesh system that pairs one Halo H85X unit, which has a 2.5 Gbps port, with one Halo H80X unit. Mercusys rates the 2-pack for up to 5,000 ft² (460 m²) and over 150 devices. Both units list 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with 160 MHz channels.

Halo H85X(2-pack) overview

The H85X 2-pack is a mixed kit. Mercusys's package list for it is one Halo H85X unit and one Halo H80X unit, along with one RJ45 Ethernet cable, two power adapters and a Quick Installation Guide. The difference between the two is the wired ports: the H85X has one 2.5 Gbps port and two 1 Gbps ports, while the H80X has three 1 Gbps ports, all WAN/LAN auto-sensing. Mercusys states that only the Halo H85X unit has a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, so in this pack the H85X is the one to connect to a multi-gig modem, or to a PC, smart TV or console that can use a 2.5 Gbps wired link. 2.5 Gbps and 1 Gbps internet speeds require compatible service plans and equipment, and only one port can serve as the WAN at a time.

Mercusys rates this 2-pack for up to 5,000 ft² (460 m²). Both Halos broadcast one unified network with a single Wi-Fi name and password, and Mercusys says devices are switched between Halos automatically as you move through the home. Seamless roaming needs clients that support 802.11k/v/r and may require additional setup. Self-healing chooses the connection route between the two Halos according to network stability. Once the main Halo is configured in the Mercusys app, the add-on unit is powered up and joins the network automatically.

On the wireless side the two units are matched: AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 with 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz (802.11ax/ac/n/a) and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (802.11ax/n/b/g). The page lists a 4x longer OFDM symbol, MU-MIMO, OFDMA, 160 MHz channels, BSS Colour and 1024-QAM, plus signal amplifiers and receivers and beamforming towards devices. Mercusys quotes connections for over 150 devices. These are maximum physical signal rates from IEEE 802.11, and Mercusys does not guarantee throughput, coverage or device counts, which vary with network conditions, client limitations, building materials, obstacles and traffic. Wi-Fi 6 features including OFDMA, MU-MIMO, 1024-QAM, HE160 and BSS Colour need client support, and 160 MHz on 5 GHz may be unavailable in some regions due to regulatory restrictions.

Router and Access Point modes are listed, along with Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP WAN types, IPv4 and IPv6, DHCP server and client, WMM, an SPI firewall and local, remote and multi-manager administration. Wireless security is WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3, and WPA3 requires clients that also support it. In the Mercusys app you can view connected devices, use QoS, set up 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz guest networks, get new-device alerts and monthly reports, and create parental-control profiles with online time limits, blocked websites and an internet pause. Mercusys lists unit dimensions of 128 x 81 x 83.7 mm and a reset button. The H85X and H80X both mesh with other Halo H series units, but not with the S series.

No. Mercusys's package list is one H85X and one H80X. Only the H85X has a 2.5 Gbps port.

For multi-gig internet, the H85X, as it is the only unit with a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port. A compatible plan and equipment are needed for 2.5 Gbps speeds.

Mercusys rates it for up to 5,000 ft² (460 m²). Real coverage depends on the building.

Both are AX3000: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, as maximum signal rates.

Wi-Fi 6. Its specifications list IEEE 802.11ax on both bands.

Mercusys quotes over 150 devices.

Yes, other Halo H series units. Mercusys says H and S series units cannot work together.
