The Mercusys Halo H50G(2-pack) is an AC1900 whole home mesh Wi-Fi system with two Halo H50G units. Mercusys's 2-pack page quotes coverage of up to 350 m². Each unit is dual-band, with 1300 Mbps on 5 GHz and 600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, six signal amplifiers, MU-MIMO, beamforming, Smart Connect and three gigabit WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports.

Halo H50G(2-pack) overview

The Halo H50G is Mercusys's AC1900 mesh unit, and this pack contains two of them. The summary on Mercusys's H50G 2-pack page says the system blankets up to 350 m² with Wi-Fi. Both units work as one network with one Wi-Fi name and password, and Mercusys describes Halo's seamless roaming as switching your devices between Halos as you move so they stay on the stronger signal. A self-healing feature chooses the better connection route between Halos based on network status, and if one Halo has a problem the system reroutes data to fill the gap. Mercusys lists 802.11k/v/r as the mesh protocol.

Each H50G is dual-band, using IEEE 802.11a/n/ac on 5 GHz and 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz, with signal rates of 1300 Mbps and 600 Mbps for a combined 1.9 Gbps. Mercusys says six simultaneous data streams connect devices to more bandwidth and that the H50G provides connections for over 100 devices, helped by MU-MIMO. Six signal amplifiers and receivers are built in to improve transmission distance and signal strength, and beamforming concentrates the signal towards devices that are far away or low-powered. Smart Connect puts 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one SSID and helps each device pick the band with the stronger signal and faster speed. Real-world speed, coverage and device numbers depend on your home, devices and connection.

Wired connections are handled by three gigabit ports on every unit, so the pair has six. They use WAN/LAN auto-sensing, which means you do not need to work out which port goes to the modem. Mercusys shows the H50G linking units over 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless with optional gigabit Ethernet backhaul, and it says the H50G works with major ISPs and modems. Besides Router mode, which creates a Wi-Fi network for your devices, Access Point mode extends an existing wired network and makes it wireless. Supported WAN types are Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP, and the system supports IPv4 and IPv6, DHCP server and client, WMM, and an SPI firewall.

The Mercusys app on iOS or Android walks through setup. Once running, it shows the status of each Halo and connected devices, lets you prioritise or block devices, set up 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz guest networks and get an alert when an unfamiliar device joins, and produces monthly reports of usage, blocked content and security threats. Parental controls include user profiles, age-based filter levels, online time limits and pausing the internet. Wireless security is WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK. Each H50G is an 88 x 88 x 88 mm cube with a reset button, and transmission power is under 20 dBm (EIRP) on 2.4 GHz and under 23 dBm (EIRP) on 5 GHz. The box contains two Halo H50G units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, two power adapters and one Quick Installation Guide. More Halos can be added, from the H series only.
