Professional Overview

The Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 6P (ER-6P) is a high-performance router that brings carrier-class reliability and enterprise-level features to a compact and affordable form factor. As part of the EdgeMAX platform, it is designed for network professionals and WISPs who require advanced routing capabilities, flexible power options, and centralized management without the high cost of traditional enterprise hardware.

Engineered for exceptional throughput, the ER-6P is powered by a quad-core 1 GHz processor and hardware acceleration for packet processing. This allows it to achieve an impressive forwarding rate of 3.4 million packets per second and a line rate of 6 Gbps for larger packets. This raw performance ensures that your network can handle demanding routing tasks, complex firewall rules, and heavy traffic loads without creating a bottleneck, making it an excellent choice for the core of a small to medium-sized business network.

The EdgeRouter 6P offers superior connectivity and versatility. It features five configurable Gigabit RJ45 ports that can provide 24V passive PoE to power Ubiquiti airMAX and other compatible devices, simplifying your infrastructure by eliminating the need for separate PoE injectors. For high-speed backbone connectivity, it includes a dedicated SFP port, enabling reliable, long-distance fiber uplinks that are immune to electromagnetic interference.

Management is handled by the powerful and intuitive EdgeOS firmware, which provides a graphical user interface for standard setup and a command-line interface (CLI) for advanced configuration. The ER-6P can be managed as a standalone device or centrally provisioned and monitored through the Ubiquiti ISP platform (UISP), providing a single pane of glass to oversee your entire network of EdgeMAX and airMAX devices. This combination of power, flexibility, and control makes the EdgeRouter 6P a superior choice for building scalable and robust networks.
