The TP-Link EAP787 is the flagship Omada BE12000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 ceiling mount access point. It combines 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 5765 Mbps on 5 GHz and 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz across eight spatial streams, with 320 MHz channels, Multi-Link Operation, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs, a 10 Gbps PoE++ Ethernet port (802.3bt/at PoE or 12 V DC), Dedicated RF Scanning, 510+ concurrent clients and Omada SDN cloud management.

EAP787 overview

The EAP787 is TP-Link's Omada BE12000 tri-band ceiling mount Wi-Fi 7 access point, which TP-Link describes as the flagship model of its ceiling mount access points, fully leveraging Wi-Fi 7 technology to deliver optimal performance for the most demanding clients and applications. It is sold as BE15000 in the US and BE12000 in the EU region, and the AU product page lists the BE12000 rates: 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 5765 Mbps on 5 GHz and 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz. It works to IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be with eight spatial streams in total: 2x2 on 2.4 GHz, 4x4 on 5 GHz and 2x2 on 6 GHz, all uplink and downlink with MU-MIMO. TP-Link notes that maximum wireless signal rates are physical rates derived from the IEEE 802.11 specifications, and actual throughput, coverage and number of connected devices are not guaranteed.

The Wi-Fi 7 feature set is complete: 320 MHz bandwidth on 6 GHz, Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 4096-QAM (4K-QAM), Multi-RUs, OFDMA and BSS colouring, together with beamforming, band steering, load balance and airtime fairness. TP-Link says these significantly enhance throughput, connection stability and concurrent capacity. A distinguishing feature of the EAP787 is Dedicated RF Scanning, which continuously scans surrounding wireless frequencies without impacting normal user data, identifies interference sources and channel congestion in real time, adds air packet capture for troubleshooting and provides channel utilisation metrics; it requires an Omada controller V6.0 or above. The datasheet also describes 6 GHz AFC support for extended 6 GHz range, noting that AFC availability varies by region and country.

For wired performance the EAP787 has one 10M/100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10 Gbps multi-gigabit RJ45 port with PoE in, which TP-Link says delivers multi-gigabit performance for higher bandwidth and faster Wi-Fi. It is powered by 802.3bt PoE or a 12 V / 2.5 A DC supply, with 802.3at PoE also supported; the system LED shows orange when power is insufficient (802.3at or 802.3af), so full performance should be planned on 802.3bt or DC. Maximum power consumption is listed at 26.3 W on PoE and 22.4 W on DC. Note that the power adapter is not included. Antennas are internal: 2 x 4.0 dBi on 2.4 GHz, 4 x 5.0 dBi on 5 GHz and 2 x 5.0 dBi on 6 GHz, plus an internal 5 dBi Bluetooth module (BLE 5.2), for which TP-Link notes a firmware update may be required.

The AU page lists coverage of up to 190 square metres (2050 sq ft) and 510+ concurrent clients, with a maximum of 512 associated stations in the datasheet; TP-Link notes coverage is calculated from laboratory testing and actual capacity depends on the wireless environment. Security and guest features include up to 24 SSIDs (eight on each band), captive portal authentication with SMS login, WPA3-Personal/Enterprise, access control, MAC filtering, wireless isolation between clients, VLAN, rogue AP detection, RADIUS accounting and MAC authentication. Seamless roaming (802.11k/v/r) and mesh are supported with an Omada controller.

Management runs through Omada Central (cloud-based), an Omada hardware controller or an Omada software controller, with zero-touch provisioning and batch configuration through Omada's unified SDN; cloud access requires an Omada controller. The datasheet lists Omada Controller v5.15.20 and Omada Essential v5.15.22 and above (V6.0 for Dedicated RF Scanning) and the Omada app v4.24. It also supports standalone web management, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, local and remote syslog, email alerts, management MAC access control and LED on/off control. The 220 x 220 x 38.8 mm unit weighs 0.885 kg, installs with a push-up-and-rotate lock on the included ceiling, wall and junction box mounting kit, operates from 0 to 40 °C, and carries CE, FCC and IC certification.
