The TP-Link EAP723 is an Omada BE3600 dual-band Wi-Fi 7 ceiling access point: 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, a 2.5G Ethernet port powered by 802.3at PoE+ or 12 V DC, Multi-Link Operation and 4K-QAM, up to 16 SSIDs, and management through Omada Central, an Omada controller, the Omada app or its web interface.

EAP723 overview

The EAP723 is TP-Link's Omada dual-band Wi-Fi 7 ceiling mount access point, which TP-Link calls the ideal choice for a fast, reliable and secure dual-band Wi-Fi 7 experience. On TP-Link Australia's specification it is a BE3600 model with signal rates of 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, each band running 2x2 MIMO with two spatial streams. TP-Link notes that maximum wireless signal rates are physical rates derived from the IEEE 802.11 specifications, and that actual throughput, coverage and connected devices are not guaranteed and vary with ISP factors, network conditions, client limitations and the environment. Wi-Fi 7 technologies including Multi-Link Operation, Multi-RUs, 4K-QAM, OFDMA and 160 MHz channels improve throughput, stability and concurrent capacity, provided the clients also support those features.

Wired connectivity comes through a single 2.5G multigigabit Ethernet port (10M/100M/1000M/2.5 Gbps), which TP-Link says delivers multi-gigabit performance for higher bandwidth and faster Wi-Fi. The port accepts 802.3at PoE+, so one cable carries data and power from a PoE+ switch. There is also a 12 V / 1.5 A DC input that takes a 2.1 mm / 5.5 mm centre-positive circular plug, but the DC power adapter is not included. TP-Link rates the EAP723 for 250+ concurrent clients, noting that actual capacity depends on the wireless environment and client traffic and is generally less than the maximum number of connections, and for coverage of up to 140 m² (1500 ft²), a laboratory figure that is not guaranteed and varies with client limitations and environmental factors.

Physically the EAP723 is a 160 x 160 x 36.7 mm unit with internal antennas: two 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and two 5 dBi on 5 GHz. Ceiling, wall and junction box mounting kits are included, and TP-Link describes installation as push up and rotate to lock. Security covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 in Personal and Enterprise modes, 802.1X, MAC authentication and RADIUS accounting, up to 4,000 MAC filter entries, wireless isolation between clients, SSID-to-VLAN mapping and rogue AP detection. TP-Link highlights a secure guest network with up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band), and wireless functions include band steering, load balancing, airtime fairness, beamforming, rate limiting, QoS (WMM) and wireless and reboot schedules.

As part of Omada SDN, the EAP723 works with Omada switches, gateways and controllers for end-to-end visibility, zero-touch provisioning and batch configuration from one cloud interface. Centralised management is through Omada Central (cloud-based), an Omada hardware controller or the Omada software controller, alongside the Omada app; standalone web management, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, syslog and email alerts are also supported. Omada Mesh, seamless roaming, captive portal authentication and cloud access require an Omada controller; with one, guests can sign in through a captive portal that supports SMS login. The access point operates from 0 to 40 °C and carries CE, FCC and IC certification. ARC IP Networks supplies the EAP723 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
