The TP-Link Tapo L530E is a single multicolour smart Wi-Fi light bulb with an E27 Edison screw base. It mixes 16 million colours and tunable white from 2500 K to 6500 K, delivers 806 lumens (60 W incandescent equivalent) at a maximum of 8.3 W, and dims through the Tapo app. It needs no hub, runs schedules and Away Mode, and takes voice commands from Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Tapo L530E overview

TP-Link's Tapo L530E is a colour-changing smart bulb with an E27 Edison screw base in the A60 shape, measuring 115 x 60 mm. It is sold here as a single bulb. TP-Link describes it as immersive lighting for any scenario: you can customise brightness, colour temperature from 2500 K to 6500 K and colour, with 16 million hues to choose from, to build lighting around your daily routine or a special activity. Light output is 806 lumens, rated equivalent to a 60 W incandescent lamp, and TP-Link states the bulb uses only 8.3 W to produce it, with a weighted consumption of 9 kWh per 1000 hours.

Everything is managed from the Tapo app. Colour changing and dimming are handled via the app and cloud, so you tap to set the atmosphere rather than using a wall dimmer. Found the right mood lighting for your movies? Save it as a preset and apply it instantly next time. Schedules and timers switch the L530E on or off at the brightness you choose, while sunrise and sunset modes activate it automatically according to your time zone. Remote control means one tap on your phone turns the light on, however late you arrive home.

When you go on holiday, Away Mode switches the bulb on and off at random intervals so it looks like someone is home. Voice control works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, for example "Alexa, turn on the light" or "Hey Google, dim my bedroom lights". There is no hub to buy: the L530E joins your home Wi-Fi network directly and sits in the Tapo app with your other Tapo devices, and setup is a short step-by-step process in the app.

The L530E connects using IEEE 802.11b/g/n on the 2.4 GHz band only and is rated for 220-240 V AC at 50/60 Hz. TP-Link lists a 220 degree beam angle, a colour rendering index of 80 or higher, colour consistency of 6 SDCM or better, warm-up to 95% in one second or less, a lifetime of 25,000 hours, 15,000 switching cycles and a 0.4 W standby draw. Certifications are CE, ERP, SAA and RCM, and the operating range is -15 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. A factory reset returns the bulb to 2700 K at 100% brightness.
