The TP-Link EAP610-Outdoor is an Omada omnidirectional AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 indoor/outdoor access point for outdoor scenarios such as yards, swimming pools and parks. It offers up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, an IP68 weatherproof enclosure, 6 kV lightning protection and a gigabit port powered by 802.3at PoE+ or the included passive PoE adapter, managed through Omada SDN.

EAP610-Outdoor overview

The EAP610-Outdoor is TP-Link's Omada omnidirectional AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 indoor/outdoor access point. TP-Link describes it as providing reliable and stable outdoor network connections and names outdoor scenarios such as yards, swimming pools and parks. It is dual band, IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ax on 2.4 GHz and 802.11a/n/ac/ax on 5 GHz, with 2x2 uplink/downlink MU-MIMO and two spatial streams on each band. Wi-Fi 6 data rates run from 8.6 Mbps up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (HE20/40) and up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz (HE20/40/80). The datasheet lists uplink/downlink OFDMA, 1024-QAM, a 4x longer OFDM symbol, TWT (Target Wake Time), transmit beamforming, DFS, STBC and LDPC, and band steering, load balancing and airtime fairness are among the wireless functions. TP-Link notes that Wi-Fi 6 features such as OFDMA and 1024-QAM require clients that support them.

It is built for the outdoors. The IP68 weatherproof enclosure is described by TP-Link as offering complete dustproof protection and the ability to withstand prolonged submersion in water, and the access point has ±6 kV lightning and surge protection on the Ethernet port plus ±8 kV air and ±4 kV contact ESD protection. TP-Link rates the operating temperature at -30 to 70 degrees C, which it says makes it ideal for extremely hot and cold environments, and a grounding terminal is provided. Internal omnidirectional antennas are rated 2 x 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 2 x 5 dBi on 5 GHz. The main unit weighs 0.81 kg, and pole and wall mounting kits are included along with a waterproof kit.

Power and data run over a single gigabit Ethernet port. TP-Link says the PoE+ port cuts deployment costs and outdoor wiring complexity, and that it works with standard 802.3at PoE+ switches or with the included 48 V passive PoE adapter, which is marked for dry indoor use only. Maximum power consumption is 13.2 W (EU) or 14.7 W (US), with idle consumption of 5.3 W on PoE, figures to note when sizing a switch's PoE budget. Up to 16 SSIDs, eight per band, can be mapped to VLANs, and security covers WPA/WPA2/WPA3-Personal and Enterprise, Enhanced Open, PPSK, 802.1X, MAC filtering, client isolation, rogue AP detection and URL filtering. The datasheet lists more than 250 associated clients.

Management can be standalone or through Omada SDN. TP-Link says Omada SDN allows quick setup through automatic device identification and one-click adoption, and the EAP610-Outdoor works with the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, Omada hardware and software controllers (Omada Controller and Omada Essential V5.15 and above) and the Omada App V4.25 and above. Omada Mesh, seamless roaming, captive portal and cloud access require an Omada controller, and zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. The datasheet lists AP, repeater and mesh operating modes, standalone mesh, 802.11k/v/r roaming with non-stick roaming and AI roaming (layer 2), and captive portal options including vouchers, SMS, RADIUS, LDAP and external portal servers. SSH, SNMP v1/v2c, syslog, email alerts, LLDP and a management VLAN round out the feature set. ARC IP Networks supplies the EAP610-Outdoor from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
