The TP-Link EAP235-Wall is an Omada AC1200 Wi-Fi 5 wall-plate access point: up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, MU-MIMO, a gigabit 802.3af/at PoE uplink plus three gigabit downlink ports (one with PoE pass-through), up to 16 SSIDs and Omada SDN management. TP-Link calls its ultra-thin design an ideal choice for business Wi-Fi 5 networking.

EAP235-Wall overview

The EAP235-Wall is TP-Link's Omada AC1200 wireless MU-MIMO gigabit wall-plate access point. TP-Link says that with reliable performance and an ultra-thin design it is an ideal choice for business Wi-Fi 5 networking. It is dual-band 802.11ac Wave 2: the 5 GHz radio reaches up to 867 Mbps and the 2.4 GHz radio up to 300 Mbps, both 2x2 with two spatial streams. TP-Link notes these maximum wireless signal rates are the physical rates derived from the IEEE 802.11 specifications. MU-MIMO allows multiple devices to receive data simultaneously, reducing congestion; TP-Link states that MU-MIMO capability requires client devices that also support MU-MIMO.

The wall plate carries four gigabit ports. The uplink is one gigabit Ethernet port with PoE in, powered by 802.3af or 802.3at PoE. On the downlink side are three gigabit Ethernet ports: two standard RJ45 ports and one that supports PoE pass-through. TP-Link states the PoE out port supplies 802.3af PoE up to 13 W when the PoE-in port is powered by 802.3at (PoE+), so you can power devices such as IP phones without additional electrical cables. Maximum power consumption is 9.8 W without PoE out and 24.4 W with PoE out. There is a physical security lock, a reset button and an LED on/off control button, and surge protection of ±4 kV on the Ethernet ports.

TP-Link's datasheet describes a dedicated, private Wi-Fi network in each room: an EAP235-Wall in each room gives users their own private Wi-Fi network with corner-to-corner coverage, rated at up to 25 m² (300 ft²). Coverage is calculated from laboratory testing and is not guaranteed; it varies with client limitations and environmental factors. TP-Link lists up to 200 concurrent clients, noting that actual capacity depends on the wireless environment and client traffic and is generally less than the maximum. Security includes up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band), captive portal authentication with SMS login, WPA/WPA2-Enterprise, 802.1X, MAC filtering, client isolation, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, local LAN port-based VLAN and rogue AP detection.

As part of Omada SDN, the EAP235-Wall is set up through automatic device identification and one-click adoption, and managed with the Omada app, a web browser, or an Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controller. Cloud access and seamless roaming (802.11k/v) require an Omada controller, and zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. Other features include automatic channel assignment, transmit power control, band steering, beamforming, load balancing, rate limits, schedules, SNMP, SSH and email alerts. The 143 x 86 mm plate operates from 0 to 40 °C and carries CE and FCC certification. In the box are the access point, an installation guide and mounting hardware. ARC IP Networks supplies the EAP235-Wall from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
