The TP-Link DS111P is an Omada unmanaged desktop switch with eight 10/100 Mbps 802.3af/at PoE+ ports, two gigabit RJ45 ports and one gigabit SFP slot. It delivers up to 30 W per port within a 65 W PoE budget, adds Extend Mode for up to 250 m, Isolation Mode and PoE Auto Recovery, and runs fanless with plug-and-play setup.

DS111P overview

The DS111P is an 11-port desktop switch from TP-Link's Omada unmanaged range, built around eight PoE+ ports. Ports 1 to 8 are 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports compliant with IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at, so each one transfers data and power on a single cable to 802.3af/at compliant powered devices. TP-Link rates each PoE port at up to 30 W, with a total PoE power budget of 65 W for the eight ports. TP-Link notes that PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing and that the actual budget is not guaranteed and will vary with client limitations and environmental factors. PoE power is delivered on pins 3 and 6 (positive) and pins 1 and 2 (negative).

Alongside the PoE ports the DS111P has two 1000 Mbps RJ45 ports and one 1000 Mbps SFP slot; IEEE 802.3z is among its listed standards. All RJ45 ports support auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX. The switch uses store-and-forward transmission with 7.6 Gbps switching capacity, a 5.6544 Mpps packet forwarding rate, a 2K MAC address table with auto-learning and auto-aging, 16 KB jumbo frames and IEEE 802.3x flow control. Supported standards are IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3x, 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3z.

Three modes add flexibility without any configuration software. Extend Mode stretches PoE power and data transmission to up to 250 m; TP-Link notes that ports in Extend Mode drop to 10 Mbps and that actual distance can vary with the power consumption of the powered device and the cable quality and type. Isolation Mode, available on ports 1 to 8, gives one-click client traffic separation, which TP-Link says improves security and performance. PoE Auto Recovery on ports 1 to 8 keeps powered devices running by automatically rebooting any that drop off or stop responding.

TP-Link describes the DS111P as plug and play, with no configuration or central management required, and states that Omada unmanaged switches do not support Omada SDN central management. Its fanless design, TP-Link says, reduces power consumption and works silently. The 209 x 126 x 26 mm case has a physical security lock and runs from an external 53.5 VDC / 1.31 A power adapter; maximum power consumption is 5.61 W with no powered device connected and 77.32 W (110 V / 50 Hz) with a 65 W load. It is rated for 0 to 40 °C operation, carries FCC and CE certification, and ships with a power adapter, installation guide and rubber feet. ARC IP Networks supplies the DS111P from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
