The TP-Link DS106GPP is an Omada 6-port Gigabit desktop switch with 3-port PoE+ and 1-port PoE++. Port 1 supports 802.3af/at/bt devices at up to 60W, ports 2-4 deliver up to 30 W each, and the total PoE budget is 64 W based on TP-Link laboratory testing. Extend Mode on ports 1-2 reaches up to 250 m, with those ports dropping to 10 Mbps. PoE Auto Recovery reboots dropped or unresponsive powered devices automatically, and 802.1p/DSCP QoS keeps latency-sensitive traffic smooth. It is fanless and plug and play. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link Omada DS106GPP is a 6-port gigabit unmanaged desktop switch with one 802.3bt PoE++ port (up to 60 W) and three PoE+ ports (up to 30 W each), sharing a 64 W PoE budget. It adds 802.1p/DSCP QoS, IGMP snooping, an Extend Mode button for up to 250 m runs on ports 1 and 2, PoE Auto Recovery and a fanless 158 x 101 x 25 mm body, with plug-and-play setup.

DS106GPP overview

The DS106GPP is TP-Link's Omada 6-port gigabit desktop switch with 3-port PoE+ and 1-port PoE++. All six ports are 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 with auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX. Port 1 is the PoE++ port, compliant with IEEE 802.3af/at/bt and able to supply up to 60 W; ports 2 to 4 are PoE+ ports compliant with 802.3af/at at up to 30 W each; ports 5 and 6 are standard gigabit ports. Data and power travel on one cable, so a high-draw device on port 1 and three PoE+ devices on ports 2 to 4 can be powered straight from the switch. The total PoE budget is 64 W across all PoE ports; TP-Link notes that PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing and that the actual budget is not guaranteed and will vary with client limitations and environmental factors.

Although it is an unmanaged, plug-and-play switch that needs no configuration, the DS106GPP includes several features aimed at PoE deployments. 802.1p/DSCP QoS lets latency-sensitive traffic flow smoothly, and IGMP snooping is supported. PoE Auto Recovery on ports 1 to 4 automatically reboots dropped or unresponsive powered devices, which TP-Link says keeps PoE devices operating stably. An Extend Mode button applies to ports 1 and 2 and supports PoE power and data transmission up to 250 m (820 ft). TP-Link's conditions for Extend Mode are clear: port speed drops to 10 Mbps, and the actual distance can vary with the power consumption of the powered devices and the cable quality and type.

Switching performance is 12 Gbps of switching capacity and a packet forwarding rate of 8.928 Mpps, using store-and-forward transmission, a 4K MAC address table with auto-learning and auto-aging, and IEEE 802.3x flow control. The switch conforms to IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3x, 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt. It is fanless and measures 158 x 101 x 25 mm. LEDs show power, link/activity, PoE status and PoE MAX. Power comes from an external adapter rated at 53.5 VDC / 1.31 A. Maximum power consumption is 4.75 W with no powered device connected and 71.46 W with 64 W of powered devices connected (220 V / 50 Hz), and maximum heat dissipation is 16.20 BTU/h and 243.68 BTU/h respectively.

One point to note for Omada sites: TP-Link states that Omada unmanaged switches do not support Omada SDN central management, so the DS106GPP will not appear in an Omada controller alongside managed Omada switches, gateways and access points. The operating range is 0 to 40 °C at 10 to 90 % RH non-condensing, with storage from -40 to 70 °C at 5 to 90 % RH non-condensing, and it carries FCC and CE certifications. In the box are the DS106GPP, the power adapter and an installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the DS106GPP from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
