The TP-Link DS1008X is an Omada 8-port 10G desktop/rackmount switch. All eight ports auto-negotiate across 100Mbps, 1G, 2.5G, 5G and 10G, giving up to 160 Gbps of switching capacity for 10G NAS, servers, 10G NICs, gaming PCs and Multi-Gig Wi-Fi 6 access points. TP-Link positions it for business and home offices, workstations, LAN parties and home entertainment. It is plug and play with no configuration needed, though as an Omada unmanaged switch it does not support Omada SDN central management. A rackmount kit and rubber feet are included. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link DS1008X is an Omada 8-port 10G unmanaged desktop/rackmount switch. All eight RJ45 ports auto-negotiate 100 Mbps, 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 Gbps, giving 160 Gbps of switching capacity, with 802.1p/DSCP QoS and 802.3x flow control. TP-Link describes it as plug and play, with no configuration or central management required.

DS1008X overview

The DS1008X is TP-Link's Omada 8-port 10G unmanaged desktop/rackmount switch. Every one of its eight RJ45 ports supports five speeds, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps, with auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX. TP-Link says the eight 10-Gigabit ports unlock the highest performance of 10G and Multi-Gig bandwidth and devices, providing up to 160 Gbps of switching capacity. The packet forwarding rate is listed at 119 Mpps, and the switch uses store-and-forward transmission. Supported standards are IEEE 802.3, 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3bz, 802.3an, 802.3x and 802.1p.

TP-Link lists the kinds of connections it is built for: 10G NAS, servers, 10G PCIe adapters and NICs, gaming computers, 2.5G, 5G and 10G Wi-Fi 6 access points, 8K video and more. It also names the scenarios: business and home offices, workstations, LAN parties and home entertainment. Cabling requirements in the datasheet are worth checking before deployment. 100BASE-TX runs over UTP category 5 or better up to 100 m, and 1000BASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T need UTP category 5e or better up to 100 m. For 10GBASE-T, UTP category 6 is rated to a maximum of 50 m, while STP category 6, 6a or 7, or UTP category 6a, reach the full 100 m.

As an unmanaged switch the DS1008X needs no setup. TP-Link describes it as plug and play, with no configuration or central management required, and its datasheet notes that Omada unmanaged switches do not support Omada SDN central management. Traffic handling is still more than basic: 802.3x flow control and 802.1p/DSCP QoS are listed in the specifications, and the datasheet adds IGMP snooping. LEDs comprise one system power indicator and eight link/activity indicators, one built into each RJ45 port, so link status can be read at the port itself.

Physically the switch measures 294 x 180 x 44 mm and can sit on a desk or be mounted in a rack, with a rackmount kit and rubber feet both included in the box alongside the power cord and installation guide. Power input is listed as 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 0.8 A, and the switch has a single fan. The DS1008X is rated for operating temperatures of 0 to 50 degrees C and storage from -40 to 70 degrees C, with 10 to 90% RH non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90% RH non-condensing storage humidity. Certifications listed are CE and FCC, with RoHS also named in the datasheet. ARC IP Networks supplies the DS1008X from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
