The TP-Link Deco X55(1-pack) is a single AX3000 Deco mesh Wi-Fi 6 router with up to 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz (HE160) and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, three gigabit ports with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, HomeShield security, VPN server and client support and WPA3-Personal. It works on its own or joins any other Deco model to form a mesh network, managed in the Deco app.

Deco X55(1-pack) overview

The Deco X55 is part of TP-Link's AX3000 whole home mesh Wi-Fi 6 range, and the 1-pack contains a single Deco X55 unit. It is dual band Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a on 5 GHz and 802.11ax/n/b/g on 2.4 GHz) with Wi-Fi speeds of 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz using 802.11ax HE160 and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz using 802.11ax. TP-Link rates its capacity as high: the dual-band design distributes devices to different bands, 2x2 MU-MIMO communicates with multiple MU-MIMO clients simultaneously, OFDMA does the same for multiple Wi-Fi 6 clients, and four streams provide bandwidth for connected devices. Two internal antennas form a signal-boosting array, and Beamforming concentrates wireless signal strength towards clients to expand Wi-Fi range.

A single Deco X55 can run as your main router, and because TP-Link states the Deco X55 is compatible with every other Deco model to form a mesh network, the 1-pack is also a way to add a node to an existing Deco system or to start small and expand coverage later by adding more Decos. Mesh features listed in TP-Link's comparison table include IEEE 802.11k/v/r, true seamless roaming, Adaptive Path Selection, band steering, AP steering and self-healing, and wireless connections and optional Ethernet backhaul work together to link Deco units. TP-Link's AI-Driven Mesh automatically learns your network environment, client quality and user behaviour, with algorithms that account for various factors to provide mesh Wi-Fi unique to your home.

The unit has three gigabit Ethernet ports with WAN/LAN auto-sensing and a reset button, and runs in Router Mode or Access Point Mode. As a router it supports Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP WAN types with IPv4 and IPv6. Security includes an SPI firewall, access control and HomeShield with real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner. Wi-Fi encryption covers WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal and WPA3-Personal. The Deco X55 can act as an OpenVPN, PPTP or L2TP VPN server and as a client for the same three types, and further features include IoT network and device isolation, Tapo/Kasa onboarding, static routing, and node and band connection preference.

Setup uses the Deco app: unbox the Deco, install the app and follow the on-screen directions, and TP-Link says the network will be running in minutes. The app runs on Android 5.0 or later and iOS 9.0 or later (TP-Link notes these minimums are updated alongside the app), and lets you manage Wi-Fi at home or away, see all connected devices, prioritise your own and set up guest networks on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz with effective time and bandwidth control. HomeShield parental controls include YouTube restriction, SafeSearch, custom profiles, a content filter library, Bedtime, Off Time and weekly and monthly reports, and the Deco X55 can be paired with Alexa for voice commands. IPTV (IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge and tag VLAN), QoS by device, TP-Link DDNS and OTA firmware upgrades are also listed. The unit measures 110 x 110 x 114 mm and carries CE, FCC and RCM certification. ARC IP Networks supplies the Deco X55(1-pack) from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
