The Cisco CW9162I-MR in depth

Wi-Fi 6E for the Meraki dashboard

The CW9162I-MR is the cloud-managed part number of the Catalyst 9162I. Cisco's ordering guide states that -MR is ordered for cloud use and the -x regulatory part number for on-premises management. It brings three 2x2 radios, including 6 GHz, to small and medium sites.

Five radios on PoE+

Alongside the three client radios, the AP has a dedicated scanning radio and an IoT radio. Meraki's CW916x FAQ states the CW9162 runs all radios and its USB port on 802.3at power, so it suits existing PoE+ switching.

Licensing

Meraki's datasheet states that a Meraki access point licence is required. The radio approvals list AS/NZS 4268 for Australia and New Zealand.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco CW9162I-MR from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Yes. Meraki's CW9162 datasheet states that a Meraki access point licence is required.

Both are the Catalyst 9162I. Cisco's ordering guide says the -MR part number is ordered for cloud (Meraki) use and the -x regulatory part number (such as -Z for Australia/NZ) for on-premises management.

Yes. Meraki states the CW9162 can be powered by 802.3at, with all three radios at 2x2 and the scanning radio, IoT radio and USB enabled.

It has a 6 GHz 2x2 radio. Meraki notes the CW9162 operates tri-band as long as the regulatory domain supports 6 GHz; otherwise the 6 GHz radio is disabled.

Meraki lists a lifetime hardware warranty with advanced replacement included.
