Microsoft Defender for Business in depth

Enterprise-grade protection sized for small business

Defender for Business is built on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and optimised for organisations of up to 300 users. It goes beyond antivirus with endpoint detection and response, automatic attack disruption and automated investigation and remediation.

Simple to deploy and run

Step-by-step setup and security policies that work out of the box get devices protected quickly, and monthly security summary reports show what has been blocked. No specialised security knowledge is required.

Standalone or in Business Premium

Defender for Business can be bought on its own, for example alongside Microsoft 365 Business Basic or Business Standard, and is already included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium. Servers need the separate Defender for Business servers add-on.

Subscription terms

  • Annual commitment: a 12-month term, priced per user.
  • Under Microsoft's New Commerce terms, a subscription can only be cancelled in the first seven days of its term.
  • You can add licences during the term; reductions apply from the next renewal.
  • Monthly billing is available on request through a quote.
