The Cisco C9124AXI-Z in depth

Rugged outdoor Wi-Fi 6

The Catalyst 9124AX Series is Cisco's outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access point in a rugged housing for service providers and enterprises. The 9124AXI is the internal omnidirectional antenna model, and the -Z part number is the Australia/New Zealand regulatory domain version. It is rated IP66/IP67 and operates from -40 to 65°C.

Antennas and coverage

The 9124AXI has internal omnidirectional antennas with 7 dBi peak gain on both bands, so no external antennas are needed for general outdoor coverage. A CAT 5e cable gland is supplied; Cisco specifies the AIR-ACC-CAT6= kit when using CAT 6/6A cable.

Flexible power and backhaul

The AP takes 802.3af/at/bt PoE, Cisco UPOE or 24-56V DC. Full radio operation, the 2.5G link, the SFP port and 802.3af PoE output to a downstream device need 802.3bt/UPOE or DC; 802.3at runs 2x2 radios at 1G. Cisco excludes the C9124AX from its Wi-Fi 6 indoor access point end-of-sale announcement.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco C9124AXI-Z from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Use 802.3bt, Cisco UPOE or a 24-56V DC supply for full radios, 2.5G, the SFP port and PoE output. On 802.3at PoE+ the radios run 2x2 at 1G with no SFP or PoE out, and 802.3af does not power the radios.

No. It has internal omnidirectional antennas with 7 dBi peak gain on 2.4 and 5 GHz. A CAT 5e gland is supplied; use the AIR-ACC-CAT6= kit for CAT 6/6A cable.

No end-of-sale has been announced for the 9124AX on its data sheet, and Cisco's Wi-Fi 6 indoor access point end-of-sale notice explicitly excludes the C9124AX outdoor access points.

Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers, with Cisco IOS XE 17.6.2 or later (all regulatory domains).

Cisco states a 1-year limited warranty with 10-day advance hardware replacement.
