The TP-Link Archer MR600 is a 4G+ Cat6 router with a nano SIM slot and carrier aggregation that TP-Link rates for 4G download speeds of up to 300 Mbps. It adds AC1200 dual-band Wi-Fi (867 Mbps on 5 GHz, 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz) with MU-MIMO and beamforming, three gigabit LAN ports and a gigabit LAN/WAN port for a fixed-line connection with 4G backup, plus OneMesh support.

Archer MR600 overview

The Archer MR600 is TP-Link's 4G+ Cat6 AC1200 wireless dual band gigabit router. TP-Link explains the idea simply: the MR600 acts like a phone, so it needs only a nano SIM card to get online, and it then shares that connection over Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Its 4G+ modem uses carrier aggregation, combining different carrier signals for more bandwidth, and TP-Link quotes download speeds of up to 300 Mbps for HD movies, large downloads and online gaming. Supported bands are FDD-LTE B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20 and B28 (2100, 1800, 850, 2600, 900, 800 and 700 MHz) and TDD-LTE B38, B40 and B41, with DC-HSPA+/HSPA/UMTS 3G on B1, B5 and B8. TP-Link publishes a long list of carrier aggregation combinations, including B1+B3, B3+B28, B7+B28, B28+B7 and B40+B40, which is reproduced in the specifications below.

Wi-Fi is AC1200 dual band: IEEE 802.11a/n/ac at 5 GHz with signal rates of up to 867 Mbps, and IEEE 802.11b/g/n at 2.4 GHz with up to 300 Mbps. TP-Link positions the 5 GHz band for HD streaming and gaming and the 2.4 GHz band for email and browsing. Beamforming concentrates signal towards connected devices, and a power amplifier and low noise amplifier strengthen both sending and receiving for wider coverage. MU-MIMO lets multiple devices connect at the same time, which TP-Link says reduces wait time, raises per-device throughput and lowers latency. There is one guest network per band, a wireless schedule, WMM and wireless statistics, and encryption options are 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. Add a TP-Link OneMesh range extender and the MR600 forms a seamless network under one Wi-Fi name.

All four Ethernet ports are 10/100/1000 Mbps: three LAN ports and one LAN/WAN port. TP-Link highlights the gigabit ports for demanding wired devices such as a smart TV, game console or NAS. The LAN/WAN port is compatible with cable, fibre and DSL modems, so the MR600 can run as a conventional wireless router on a fixed line, and when it is set up that way its 3G/4G connection acts as a backup; WAN failover is listed as supported. WAN types cover Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE and PPTP and L2TP with dual access. Two detachable 4G LTE antennas fit SMA-F connectors on the back of the router.

Software features include bandwidth control for QoS, a DHCP server with client list and address reservation, ALG, virtual server, port triggering, UPnP and DMZ, and dynamic DNS through TP-Link, DynDNS and NO-IP. Security covers DoS protection, IPv4 SPI and IPv6 firewalls, IP and MAC address binding and access control, and the router supports PPTP, OpenVPN and IPSec VPN. Parental controls and local management control sit under access control. You can manage it through TP-Link Cloud, locally or remotely, using the web interface or the Tether app for Android and iOS.

The MR600 has a WPS/reset button, a Wi-Fi on/off button and a power on/off button. Its power adapter takes 100-240 V input and outputs 12 V DC at 1.5 A, and the router measures 202 x 141 x 33.6 mm. It operates from 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and certification is CE. Compared with the AC750 Archer MR202, the MR600 doubles the 5 GHz signal rate, moves from 10/100 Mbps to gigabit Ethernet and adds 4G+ Cat6 carrier aggregation and IPSec VPN. The package includes the Archer MR600, a power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and a quick installation guide.
