The TP-Link Archer C24 is a compact AC750 dual-band Wi-Fi 5 router rated at 433 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with four diagonally placed fixed antennas for coverage TP-Link sizes at two-bedroom houses. It has one 10/100 Mbps WAN and four 10/100 Mbps LAN ports, works in Router, Access Point or Range Extender mode, and is managed from the Tether app or web page.

Archer C24 overview

The Archer C24 is TP-Link's AC750 dual-band Wi-Fi router, a Wi-Fi 5 model built on IEEE 802.11ac/n/a at 5 GHz and IEEE 802.11n/b/g at 2.4 GHz. TP-Link rates the 5 GHz band at up to 433 Mbps (802.11ac) and the 2.4 GHz band at up to 300 Mbps (802.11n). The idea, in TP-Link's words, is to put demanding devices on the faster and clearer 5 GHz band while the 2.4 GHz band gives a far-reaching, stable connection to everything else. Wi-Fi capacity is rated as medium, with the dual-band design allocating devices to different bands for better performance.

Coverage is sized for two-bedroom houses. Four diagonally distributed fixed antennas form a signal-boosting array that covers more directions and expands the Wi-Fi footprint, which TP-Link says supports buffer-free surfing and stall-free downloads. Inside, TP-Link uses a highly integrated single-chip design that combines the CPU, memory and a three-stream processing unit, so the router stays compact at 115 x 106.7 x 24.3 mm. TP-Link also states that eight randomly selected Archer C24 units were collectively tested for 1,936 hours as part of its reliability testing.

The Archer C24 offers three working modes. Router Mode, the default, creates a private wireless network from an Ethernet internet connection and shares it with your Wi-Fi devices. Access Point Mode turns an existing wired network into a wireless one, and Range Extender Mode boosts existing wireless coverage elsewhere in the house. Wired connections use one 10/100 Mbps WAN port and four 10/100 Mbps LAN ports, so this router suits connections and devices that do not need gigabit Ethernet. WAN types are Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP, and a cable or DSL modem is required where your service needs one.

Built-in tools include parental controls with URL filtering and time controls, one guest network on each band and QoS by device. IPTV support covers IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge and tag VLAN, and IPv4 and IPv6 are both supported. NAT forwarding includes port forwarding, port triggering, DMZ and UPnP, the DHCP server supports address reservation and a client list, and NO-IP and DynDNS are available for dynamic DNS. Network security includes an SPI firewall, access control, IP and MAC binding and an application layer gateway, and the Wi-Fi encryption listed in the specifications is WEP, WPA, WPA2 and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise (802.1x).

Setup takes minutes through the web interface or the Tether app, which also lets you manage network settings from an Android or iOS device. There is a single WPS/Reset button, the router runs from a 9 V 0.6 A supply, it operates from 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and certifications are FCC and CE. The package contains the Archer C24 router, a power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and a quick installation guide.
