The TOUGHCable PRO in depth

Outdoor shielded Category 5e cable

TOUGHCable PRO is Ubiquiti's industrial-grade Category 5e outdoor carrier-class shielded cable, built from 24 AWG conductors. The cross-section includes a conductor, insulation, an ESD drain wire, separation, a cable shield, a rip cord and a weatherproof jacket. Ubiquiti's warranty terms call for shielded Ethernet cabling on outdoor installations, which makes a shielded cable like this a natural fit.

Supplied as a 30 m cut length

This UTC-30 listing is a 30 m length of TOUGHCable PRO, cut from Ubiquiti's 1000 ft (304.8 m) box. You buy the length a single run needs, not the full box. Ubiquiti TOUGHCable Ethernet Connectors are sold separately. They are designed for TOUGHCable, help protect against Ethernet ESD attacks and hardware damage, and allow rapid field deployment without soldering.

Termination

Ubiquiti's Quick Start Guide covers termination step by step. You strip roughly 22 mm of jacket, fold back the foil shield and drain wire, and arrange the wires to the T568B wiring specification. You then insert them into the TOUGHCable Connector, crimp, and secure the drain wire to the connector's drain wire hook. You will need wire strippers/cutters, cable crimpers and needle-nose pliers.
