Professional Overview

The Ubiquiti UniFi Switch Enterprise 48 PoE (USW-Enterprise-48-PoE) is a fully managed Layer 3 switch built for high-density enterprise and prosumer networks that need multi-gigabit access to the desktop. It provides 48 x 2.5 GbE RJ45 ports — every one of them PoE+ capable — plus four 10G SFP+ uplinks for aggregation back to the core, making it ideal for powering WiFi 6/7 access points, multi-gig cameras, VoIP and high-bandwidth workstations.

Performance is rated at 160 Gbps of non-blocking switching capacity with a 238 Mpps forwarding rate. As a Layer 3 device it handles inter-VLAN routing, up to 1,000 VLANs, 256 IPv4 static routes and a 32,000-entry MAC address table, allowing it to route traffic locally instead of trombone-ing every flow through the gateway. A 720W total PoE budget feeds the 2.5 GbE ports at up to 32W each (802.3at PoE+).

The switch carries a 1.3" colour touchscreen for local status, port information and basic configuration, and supports DC power backup through a USP RPS DC input for redundancy in critical deployments. Everything is managed centrally from the UniFi Network application (version 6.2.26 and later), giving a single pane of glass for the whole UniFi stack.

Housed in a 1U SGCC steel chassis (442 x 400 x 44 mm, 6.2 kg) with an internal 870W power supply, the unit fits standard 600–1,200 mm racks and operates from -5 to 40° C. It is CE, FCC, IC and Anatel certified. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

USW-Enterprise-48-PoE vs USW-Pro-Max-48-PoE vs USW-48-PoE — Which 48-Port UniFi PoE Switch?

The Enterprise 48 PoE is the all-multi-gigabit option: every one of its 48 RJ45 ports runs 2.5 GbE with PoE+, backed by (4) 10G SFP+ uplinks, a 720W PoE budget and fully non-blocking 160 Gbps switching. The Pro Max 48 PoE mixes 1 GbE and 2.5 GbE ports but adds 64W PoE++ on 16 of them, while the standard USW-48-PoE covers gigabit access with a 195W budget at the lowest cost.

Choose the Enterprise 48 PoE when every desk, AP and camera should get multi-gigabit with PoE — schools, offices and venues standardising on WiFi 6/6E/7 access points at scale. Choose the Pro Max 48 PoE when a subset of ports needs 64W PoE++ for high-draw devices, and the USW-48-PoE where gigabit is enough. Browse the full range on our Ubiquiti UniFi switches guide. Frequently Asked Questions — Ubiquiti USW-Enterprise-48-PoE

What is the Ubiquiti USW-Enterprise-48-PoE?

The USW-Enterprise-48-PoE is a 48-port Layer 3 UniFi switch where all 48 RJ45 ports run 2.5 GbE with PoE+ (32W), plus (4) 10G SFP+ uplinks. It delivers a 720W total PoE budget and fully non-blocking 160 Gbps switching in a 1U rack chassis with an internal 870W power supply.

How much PoE does the Enterprise 48 PoE provide?

A 720W total budget with PoE+ (802.3at, 32W) available on every port - enough to power 48 access points, cameras or phones simultaneously at full 2.5 GbE speed.

What is the difference between the Enterprise 48 PoE and Pro Max 48 PoE?

The Enterprise 48 PoE gives you 2.5 GbE with PoE+ on all 48 ports and fully non-blocking throughput - ideal for standardised multi-gigabit access. The Pro Max 48 PoE mixes 32x 1 GbE and 16x 2.5 GbE ports but offers 64W PoE++ on 16 of them for high-draw devices. Both have (4) 10G SFP+ uplinks, 720W budgets, Layer 3 routing and USP-RPS redundant power support.

Why do access points need 2.5 GbE ports?

Modern WiFi 6, 6E and 7 access points routinely exceed 1 Gbps of real wireless throughput, so a gigabit port becomes the bottleneck. With 2.5 GbE and PoE+ on every port, each AP gets full backhaul and power over one cable.

Does the Enterprise 48 PoE support Layer 3 routing?

Yes. It is a Layer 3 switch with inter-VLAN routing and support for 1,000 VLANs, managed through the UniFi Network application with no licensing fees.

Does it support redundant power?

Yes. Alongside the internal 870W supply it accepts a USP-RPS DC input, so a power-supply failure does not take down the access layer.

Who the USW-Enterprise-48-PoE suits

  • Enterprise access layer deployments needing 48 ports with high PoE availability.
  • WiFi 7 rollouts where access points need more than gigabit and more than 30W.
  • Layer 3 campus access routing between VLANs locally.
  • Sites needing multi-gig uplinks to a core or aggregation switch.
