Professional Overview

The Ubiquiti UDM-Pro is a enterprise gateway for the UniFi ecosystem. 10G Cloud Gateway with 100+ UniFi device / 1,000+ client support and 3.5 Gbps IPS routing.

it delivers 3.5 Gbps IDS/IPS throughput for enterprise-grade security and traffic management.

Managed via the UniFi Network app for centralised configuration, DPI, and traffic analytics.

In a Rack mount (1U) form factor weighing 3.9 kg, the UDM-Pro is designed for reliable 24/7 operation. Australian stock, fast shipping from ARC IP Networks.

Part of our Ubiquiti UniFi Routers range — browse and compare the full range of UniFi gateways, Dream Machines and routers.

Ubiquiti UDM-Pro: the original 1U Dream Machine

The UniFi Dream Machine Pro is Ubiquiti's rack-mount cloud gateway and the model that established the category. In a single 1U appliance it runs the full UniFi application suite — Network, Protect, Access, Talk and Innerspace — with 3.5 Gbps IDS/IPS routing, support for 1,000+ clients and 100+ UniFi devices.

It remains the sensible choice for a business that wants a proper rack-mounted gateway, on-box camera recording and the whole UniFi stack without paying for the extra capacity of the SE or Pro Max.

UDM-Pro vs UDM-SE vs UDM-Pro-Max

All three are 1U rack-mount Dream Machines sharing the same 55,000+ with CyberSecure signature set, the same Shadow Mode (VRRP) gateway failover and the same 8-WAN-port maximum. Capacity, storage and PoE are what separate them.

Ports, WAN and what the UDM-Pro does not have

  • LAN: (8) GbE RJ45 plus (1) 10G SFP+
  • WAN: (1) 10G SFP+ plus (1) GbE RJ45 as defaults, with up to 8 WAN ports configurable
  • Failover: Shadow Mode (VRRP) Gateway Failover DC Power Backup
  • Display: 1.3" touchscreen

Two absences are worth stating plainly, because they decide the model for a lot of buyers:

No PoE. The UDM-Pro cannot power access points or cameras. Only the UDM-SE includes PoE, at 180W. If your design relies on the gateway feeding devices, you need the SE or a separate PoE switch.

No 2.5 GbE. The eight LAN ports are gigabit. Multi-gig is available on the two 10G SFP+ ports only — the SE and Pro Max add a 2.5 GbE WAN port. Ubiquiti recommends pairing SFP+ with an official module or SFP+ to RJ45 adapter.

Camera recording and storage

The UDM-Pro includes a single 3.5" NVR drive bay and records (24) HD (14) 2K (8) 4K streams through UniFi Protect. It also manages 150 UniFi Access hubs.

Two things to plan for: the bay ships empty, so budget for a surveillance-rated 3.5" drive; and with one bay there is no RAID, so a drive failure means losing recorded footage. If protected video matters, the UDM-Pro-Max has two bays, or use a dedicated recorder — see our Protect NVR comparison and the camera range.

On-board storage is 16 GB, and unlike the SE and Pro Max there is no built-in 128 GB SSD for detection clips.

It is UniFi Power Backup ready, so it can be paired with a UniFi UPS for clean shutdown and ride-through on brief outages.

Who the UDM-Pro suits

  • Small and medium business sites up to 1,000 clients that want a rack-mounted gateway rather than a desktop unit.
  • First serious UniFi deployment — the controller is built in, so there is nothing extra to buy to manage your UniFi estate.
  • Sites with existing PoE switching, where the gateway does not need to power anything itself.
  • Modest camera counts — up to 24 HD streams on a single drive.
  • Budget-conscious rack builds where the SE's PoE and the Pro Max's extra capacity are not required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ubiquiti UDM-Pro?

The UniFi Dream Machine Pro is a 1U rack-mount cloud gateway that runs the full UniFi application suite. It provides 3.5 Gbps IDS/IPS routing, supports 1,000+ clients and 100+ UniFi devices, and includes a 3.5-inch NVR drive bay for UniFi Protect.

Does the UDM-Pro have PoE?

No. The UDM-Pro has no PoE and cannot power access points or cameras. Only the UDM-SE includes PoE, with a 180W budget. With a UDM-Pro you need a separate PoE switch.

Are the UDM-Pro LAN ports 2.5 GbE?

No. The eight LAN ports are gigabit. Multi-gig connectivity is available only on the two 10G SFP+ ports. The UDM-SE and UDM-Pro-Max add a 2.5 GbE WAN port.

What is the difference between the UDM-Pro and the UDM-SE?

The SE adds a 180W PoE budget, a 2.5 GbE WAN port and a built-in 128 GB SSD. Routing performance and client capacity are the same on both at 3.5 Gbps and 1,000 clients.

What is the difference between the UDM-Pro and the UDM-Pro-Max?

The Pro Max roughly doubles capacity: 5 Gbps IDS/IPS versus 3.5 Gbps, 2,000 clients versus 1,000, 200+ devices versus 100+, 8 GB of memory versus 4 GB, and two drive bays versus one.

Does the UDM-Pro come with a hard drive?

No. The 3.5-inch NVR bay ships empty. Add a surveillance-rated 3.5-inch drive if you want to record cameras with UniFi Protect.

How many cameras can the UDM-Pro record?

(24) HD (14) 2K (8) 4K streams. With only one drive bay there is no RAID protection, so consider the UDM-Pro-Max or a dedicated recorder if protected footage matters.

How many WAN ports does the UDM-Pro support?

Up to 8 WAN ports can be configured. The defaults are one 10G SFP+ and one GbE RJ45.

Does the UDM-Pro support redundancy?

Yes. It supports Shadow Mode (VRRP) Gateway Failover DC Power Backup, and is UniFi Power Backup ready.

How much rack space does the UDM-Pro need?

One rack unit. It measures 442.4 x 43.7 x 285.6 mm (17.4 x 1.7 x 11.2") and weighs 3.9 kg (8.6 lb).

Is there a subscription or licence fee?

No. UniFi has no recurring licensing costs. CyberSecure is the one optional paid add-on, which expands the threat signature set.

Is the UDM-Pro still worth buying?

Yes, where its capacity fits. It runs the same UniFi suite and the same 55,000+ signature set as its siblings, and for sites under 1,000 clients with existing PoE switching it delivers the same experience for less than the SE or Pro Max.

Is the UDM-Pro available in Australia?
