The TP-Link UA430D is a card reader with both a USB-C and a USB-A 3.0 connector built into one aluminium alloy body, so it fits older and newer computers alike. It has an SD and a microSD (TF) slot for UHS-I cards up to 2TB, reads up to 200 MB/s on capable cards, and TP-Link lists it as OTG supported.

UA430D overview

Where the UA430 and UA430C each have a single plug on a cable, the UA430D is a stick-style reader with two connectors in one body: USB Type-C at one end and USB Type-A at the other. TP-Link says this lets you plug it into almost all devices, whether that is a desktop tower with USB-A ports, a recent laptop with only USB-C, or a phone or tablet. TP-Link also marks the UA430D as OTG supported.

Both connectors are USB 3.0 at up to 5 Gbps and fall back to USB 2.0/1.1 speeds on older ports. The card end has a full-size SD slot and a microSD (TF) slot taking SD, SDHC, SDXC, microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards up to 2TB. With UHS-I cards, TP-Link states read speeds up to 200 MB/s, faster than the 104 MB/s UHS-I bus, provided the card and device are capable of it; TP-Link adds that actual transfer rates are not guaranteed and change with device conditions and environment. The two slots read and write at the same time, so moving files between an SD card and a microSD card needs no computer-side juggling.

There is no cable on this model. The UA430D is a slim aluminium alloy unit measuring 75 x 22.9 x 9.3 mm, which TP-Link describes as durable and easy to carry so you can access and transfer documents anywhere. Like its siblings it is plug and play on Mac OS, Windows, Linux, iPadOS, iOS, Android and Chrome OS. The box contains the UA430D reader and a quick installation guide.
