The TP-Link TL-WR3602BE, Roam 7 (BE3600), is a pocket-sized dual-band Wi-Fi 7 travel router with 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, Multi-Link Operation and 4K-QAM. It has a 2.5 Gbps WAN and gigabit LAN, USB 3.0 for drives, phones or 4G/5G modems, seven modes, WireGuard and OpenVPN, HomeShield, one-step captive portal login and USB-C power.

TL-WR3602BE overview

The TL-WR3602BE is TP-Link's Roam 7 (BE3600), the Wi-Fi 7 member of its travel router line. TP-Link calls it powerful Wi-Fi 7 in your pocket: dual-band BE3600 with 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, about 3.6 Gbps in total compared with 3.0 Gbps for the Wi-Fi 6 Roam 6. The Wi-Fi 7 features listed are 160 MHz channels for wider bandwidth, 4K-QAM, which TP-Link says packs 120% data for higher speeds, Multi-Link Operation to increase throughput, reduce latency and improve reliability, and Multi-RUs for efficiency. Those features need Wi-Fi 7 clients; older devices connect at their own standard. TP-Link says it can connect up to 90 devices.

The seven modes match the Roam 6: Router (from a hotel Ethernet port, a phone via USB Tethering or a 3G/4G/5G USB modem), Hotspot (WISP) to create a private network on public Wi-Fi, plus Access Point, Range Extender and Client for use at home. One-step captive portal authentication in the Tether app logs in to hotel and cafe portals once and brings every device online. TP-Link pictures it on camping trips, in RVs, airports, cruise ships, Airbnbs, hotels, cafes and public spaces, and notes that USB internet sharing depends on the compatibility of your phone or modem.

VPN is a strength. Roam 7 runs OpenVPN, WireGuard, PPTP and L2TP as both server and client, and can run a VPN alongside a regular internet connection. TP-Link's figures are up to 450 Mbps with WireGuard and 350 Mbps with OpenVPN, much faster than the Roam 6 (AX1500), with support for more than 35 VPN service providers (subscriptions sold separately). TP-Link HomeShield adds a real-time home network scanner, parental controls and QoS for priority devices. Security also includes an SPI firewall, access control, IP and MAC binding, ALG, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz guest networks, and WPA2-PSK, WPA3-Personal and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise.

The hardware has a 2.5 Gbps WAN port (2.5 Gbps internet needs a compatible plan and equipment), a 1 Gbps LAN port and a USB 3.0 port that shares a hard drive or connects a 4G/5G modem or phone. Power is via USB-C from the supplied adapter or a 5 V 3 A PD/QC power bank (no built-in battery), and a customisable button can switch power, LEDs or a VPN on and off. It measures 126 x 93.5 x 36 mm. In the box: the TL-WR3602BE Roam 7, a power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable, a USB cable, a quick installation guide and a Wi-Fi info card.
