The TP-Link TL-WPA4220 KIT is an AV600 Wi-Fi powerline extender starter kit that carries your network over the home's electrical wiring and rebroadcasts it as 300 Mbps Wi-Fi. The box holds a TL-WPA4220 Wi-Fi extender and a TL-PA411 powerline adapter, two Ethernet cables and a guide; HomePlug AV links them over up to 300 m of circuit with 128-bit AES, and Wi-Fi Clone copies your router's network name and password.

TL-WPA4220 KIT overview

The TL-WPA4220 KIT is TP-Link's 300Mbps AV600 Wi-Fi Powerline Extender Starter Kit, and TP-Link's question for it is: wired or wireless, why not both? Instead of relaying a weak Wi-Fi signal, it sends your network through your home's existing electrical wiring and then puts out Wi-Fi where you need it. The kit contains two adapters, a TL-WPA4220 Wi-Fi powerline extender and a TL-PA411 powerline adapter, plus two Ethernet cables and a quick installation guide. TP-Link says powerline means your network extension is never limited to the primary coverage of your router, bringing the network to anywhere there is a power outlet, including the basement, yard or loft.

TP-Link explains why this can beat a Wi-Fi only range extender. A wireless extender has to sit within existing Wi-Fi coverage to receive a signal, which limits where it can go, and it simply takes an already weak signal and reproduces it, so quality can degrade. With powerline, the network signal travels through home wiring with little interference, which TP-Link says gives stable, speedy Wi-Fi at the far end. The powerline link follows the HomePlug AV standard with OFDM modulation and a range of up to 300 m over the electrical circuit, secured with 128-bit AES encryption. TP-Link notes that powerline adapters need to be on the same electrical circuit. The AV600 figure is a maximum physical rate, and real speeds depend on wiring, electrical noise and distance.

Setup is plug, pair and play. Plug the powerline adapter into the wall near your router and connect it to the router with an Ethernet cable, then plug the TL-WPA4220 into any power outlet where you want coverage. Press the Pair buttons on both adapters to create a secure powerline network, and you are done. Wi-Fi Auto-Sync then makes the wireless side simple: pressing the Wi-Fi Clone button copies your router's network name (SSID) and password, so after pressing it you can place the extender anywhere and roam between the router and the extender on one network, and Wi-Fi Move automatically applies any later settings changes across the network. The TL-WPA4220 has Pair, Reset and Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi Clone buttons, and PWR, PLC, ETH and Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi Clone LED indicators.

The TL-WPA4220's Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz (2.4 to 2.4835 GHz) 802.11n/g/b with signal rates of up to 300 Mbps on 11n, 54 Mbps on 11g and 11 Mbps on 11b, secured with WEP, WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. The kit's interface listing is two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports for TVs, game consoles or PCs that are better on a cable. The tpPLC app for iOS and Android and the tpPLC Utility for PC let you control wireless settings, schedule Wi-Fi availability and switch the adapters' LEDs. The TL-WPA4220 measures 54 x 40 x 94 mm and the TL-PA411 52 x 28.5 x 65 mm, both with AU plugs. Maximum power consumption is listed as 7.608 W, typical 7.216 W and standby 4.610 W, measured at 220 V/50 Hz, and the operating range is 0 to 40 degrees C.

Last reviewed October 2026.

An AV600 Powerline Wi-Fi Kit of TL-WPA4220 and TL-PA411, two Ethernet cables and a quick installation guide.

The TL-PA411 connects to your router and sends the network over your electrical wiring; the TL-WPA4220 plugs in elsewhere and provides Wi-Fi and wired ports.

TP-Link lists a range of up to 300 m over the electrical circuit. Both adapters must be on the same electrical circuit.

Pressing the Wi-Fi Clone button copies your router's network name and password, so the extender broadcasts the same network.

Up to 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz 802.11n. Powerline is rated AV600. Both are maximum rates; real speeds depend on wiring and conditions.

Yes. Press the Pair buttons on both adapters to set up 128-bit AES encryption.

Yes. The tpPLC app for iOS and Android controls wireless settings, Wi-Fi schedules and the LEDs; a tpPLC Utility is available for PC.

Yes. TP-Link Australia lists an AU plug type.

TP-Link says powerline avoids the main limits of Wi-Fi only extenders: no need to sit within existing Wi-Fi coverage, and no re-broadcast of an already weak signal.
