The TP-Link TL-WA3001 is an AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 access point rated at 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz for 4K streaming and busy networks. Four fixed antennas with beamforming, a gigabit port with passive PoE and an included injector, four operating modes, Multi-SSID with VLANs, captive portal, QR-code sharing and WPA3 round it out.

TL-WA3001 overview

The TL-WA3001 is the fastest model in TP-Link's TL-WA access point range: an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 access point with 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, or up to 3000 Mbps combined. TP-Link pitches it as next-gen Wi-Fi for more devices and for 4K streaming, and lists the Wi-Fi 6 benefits as three times faster speed, four times the capacity, 75% lower latency and improved security compared with the previous generation. Its 5 GHz reception sensitivity table includes HE160 and VHT160 entries, reflecting the 160 MHz channel support behind the 2402 Mbps rate.

The access point uses four fixed high-performance antennas with beamforming to concentrate Wi-Fi signals towards devices, which TP-Link says extends reliable Wi-Fi to every corner of the home or office. Transmission power is listed under 23 dBm on 2.4 GHz and under 22 dBm on 5 GHz (FCC). Its gigabit Ethernet port makes full use of gigabit-class ISP bandwidth and supports passive PoE; the included PoE injector and 48 V 0.5 A adapter mean one Ethernet cable powers the unit wherever it is mounted. It is slightly larger than the TL-WA1801 at 240 x 165 x 43.6 mm and mounts on a wall or sits on a desk.

In Access Point mode, the default, the TL-WA3001 makes a wired network wireless. Multi-SSID mode supports up to four SSIDs and VLANs per band for separating staff, guests and devices; Range Extender mode repeats an existing wireless network; and Client mode connects a wired game console or IPTV box to Wi-Fi. The captive portal gives cafes, salons and shops a customisable guest page with an advertisement or terms of use. Quick Wi-Fi sharing generates a QR code for guests, and WPS connects devices with a button press.

Security covers WPA, WPA2, WPA3 and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise. Setup takes minutes in the web interface, and SNMP and Ping Watchdog, a DHCP server, WMM, access control and wireless statistics are available, with IPv4 and IPv6. TP-Link lists V1 and V1.20 hardware. It operates from 0 °C to 40 °C. In the box are the TL-WA3001, a power adapter, a PoE power injector, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and a quick installation guide.
