The TP-Link UE300C is a USB Type-C to RJ45 gigabit Ethernet network adapter that gives a laptop, tablet or other USB-C device a wired connection at up to 1000 Mbps. It uses USB 3.0 and the AX88179A chipset, weighs 20 g in a foldable 71 x 26 x 16.2 mm design, has a status LED and is plug and play on current Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Linux.

UE300C overview

The UE300C is TP-Link's USB Type-C to RJ45 gigabit Ethernet network adapter. TP-Link built it to give laptops, tablets, computers and other USB-C powered devices access to a wired network connection, which is useful for ultrabooks and tablets that have no Ethernet port at all, or for any machine where Wi-Fi is too slow or unreliable for large transfers, video calls or gaming. It plugs into a USB 3.0 Type-C port and provides one 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet port, so a cable from your router or switch connects directly to the device.

TP-Link calls the combination of USB 3.0 and gigabit Ethernet the fastest solution for this class of adapter, with network speeds of up to 1000 Mbps for large file transfers, downloads, streaming and gaming. The chipset is the AX88179A. As always, the real speed of your connection is also limited by the router or switch port, the cable and your internet service; on gigabit hardware with good cabling the adapter is not the bottleneck for most home and office connections.

Setup is plug and play: TP-Link says it is ready to use in seconds with no manual driver installation on Windows 10, macOS 10.9 and later, Chrome OS and Linux, and the summary on the same page adds Windows 11. On Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, and on macOS 10.6 to 10.8, a driver is required and is downloaded from the TP-Link website. The specification also lists iPadOS among supported systems, and Linux support is given as Ubuntu. An LED indicator shows network status at a glance.

The design is foldable and lightweight: 20 g and 71 x 26 x 16.2 mm, which TP-Link says suits an ultrabook and travels easily in a laptop bag. The support page lists V1 and V3 hardware, so download the driver for your version if your operating system needs one. In the box are the USB Type-C to RJ45 gigabit Ethernet network adapter and a quick installation guide.
