The TP-Link TG-3468 is a gigabit PCI Express network adapter that adds one 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port to a desktop PC. It supports auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, IEEE 802.3x flow control and Wake-on-LAN, and comes with a low-profile bracket alongside the standard bracket, a resource CD and a quick installation guide.

TG-3468 overview

The TG-3468 is TP-Link's gigabit PCI Express network adapter, a simple way to add a wired gigabit Ethernet port to a desktop PC or replace a failed onboard port. TP-Link describes it as a highly integrated and cost-effective 32-bit gigabit PCIe Ethernet adapter, fully compliant with IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u and IEEE 802.3ab, and designed for the high-speed PCI Express bus architecture. Its single RJ45 port runs at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps with auto-negotiation, and auto MDI/MDIX means it works with straight-through or crossover cables. Data rates are 10/100/1000 Mbps in half-duplex mode and 20/200/2000 Mbps in full-duplex mode.

Cabling follows the usual Ethernet limits: TP-Link lists 10BASE-T on UTP category 3, 4 or 5 cable or EIA/TIA-568 100 ohm STP, 100BASE-TX on UTP category 5 or 5e or STP, and 1000BASE-T on UTP category 5 or 5e cable, each up to 100 m. IEEE 802.3x flow control works in full-duplex mode where the connected device also supports it. Wake-on-LAN lets you power the computer on remotely over the network, which TP-Link suggests for centralised management, provided the motherboard supports it too. A status LED shows link activity.

For installation, TP-Link supplies a low-profile bracket in addition to the standard bracket, so the card fits mini tower computer cases as well as full-size towers. The card measures 78.5 x 120.8 x 21.5 mm. A resource CD with the driver is in the box, and TP-Link notes you may need to update the driver after an operating system update; the specification lists Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7, while the overview also mentions Vista and XP, and the full supported list is in TP-Link's download centre. TP-Link's support page lists V3 and V4 hardware.

The TG-3468 carries FCC, CE, BSMI and VCCI certification and is rated for operation from 0 °C to 40 °C and storage from -40 °C to 70 °C, at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. TP-Link notes that maximum throughput is the physical rate from IEEE 802.3 and that real-world throughput depends on cable class, the environment and the computer's performance. In the box are the TG-3468 gigabit PCI Express network adapter, a low-profile bracket, a resource CD and a quick installation guide.
