The TP-Link TC80 is a Tapo smart wire-free outdoor security camera. A built-in 5,200 mAh battery is rated for up to 180 days between charges under TP-Link's test conditions, and a magnetic mount lets it snap into place without cables. It gives a 1080p Full HD live view with colour night vision, AI person detection with no subscription required, a custom sound and light alarm, IP65 weather protection and microSD storage up to 512 GB (card not included). TP-Link illustrates it with Tapo C400 photos.

TC80 overview

TP-Link Australia lists the TC80 as a smart wire-free outdoor security camera under the promise "Worry-Free Security. Wire-Free Simplicity." Its AU product images show the Tapo C400, the international version of this camera. Power comes from a built-in 5,200 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which TP-Link rates at up to 180 days per charge; the footnote explains this is based on Tapo laboratory tests with 250 seconds of use per day, counting recording and live viewing, and that real battery life varies with settings, usage, router and environment. A solar panel can be added and is sold separately.

Installation is 100% wire-free: the camera attaches magnetically and can be snapped into place, and TP-Link lists wall mounting in its specifications with a camera bracket, screws and anchors in the box. TP-Link names package theft, vehicles, the backyard, gardens, pools and garages among the outdoor spaces it is meant to cover, with the driveway and front yard shown as examples. It connects straight to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so no hub is required, and it is also compatible with the Tapo H200 and H500 hubs.

The image is 1080p 2MP, 1920 x 1080 at 15 fps, from a 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor and a 3.16 mm F1.6 lens with a 116.7° diagonal, 99.7° horizontal and 53.8° vertical view. According to TP-Link, the 1080p live view is sharp enough to pick out faces and licence plates. In low light, colour night vision is supported by two white lights, and two 850 nm IR LEDs are rated to 32.8 ft (10 m).

A single motion sensor with a 110° horizontal field of view and an ambient light sensor work with AI person detection, which TP-Link offers with no additional fees or subscription. Activity zones restrict alerts to areas such as a front door or driveway, while privacy zones exclude sensitive areas from both recordings and live view. The sound and light alarm can be personalised with spotlight brightness and recorded audio, and the siren is rated at 70 dBA measured at 3 m. Two-way audio uses the built-in microphone and speaker, with noise cancellation.

Footage can be stored on a microSD card of up to 512 GB, sold separately; TP-Link estimates 832 hours on a 512 GB card, based on laboratory bitrate and 40 daily events. Tapo Care adds cloud storage and snapshot notifications by subscription. The camera is IP65 rated, operates from -20 °C to 45 °C and charges between 0 °C and 45 °C via Type-C at 5 V 1 A (adapter not included). RTSP, ONVIF and Ethernet are listed as not supported. The camera measures 81 x 48 x 58.32 mm and works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
