The TP-Link TC46 is a Tapo 4K outdoor pan/tilt security Wi-Fi camera. It records 3840 x 2160 at 25 fps through an F1.6 lens and starlight sensor, zooms digitally up to 18x, and recognises and tags familiar faces and strangers with AI processed on the device. It connects over Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, or by Ethernet, adds person, pet and vehicle detection with 360° tracking, and is rated IP66. TP-Link shows the TC46 with photos of the Tapo C560WS.

TC46 overview

The TC46 is TP-Link Australia's 4K member of the Tapo outdoor pan/tilt family, and its AU product gallery uses images of the Tapo C560WS, its international twin. It records at 4K 8MP, a maximum of 3840 x 2160 pixels, at 25 fps with H.264 compression. TP-Link pairs a 4 mm F1.6 lens (105° diagonal, 88° horizontal, 45° vertical) with a progressive scan CMOS starlight sensor, and says the 4K live view helps with finer details such as licence plates, human faces and moving objects. Digital zoom reaches 18x.

Facial recognition on the TC46 recognises and tags strangers, family and friends, and TP-Link states that all facial data is processed locally without cloud uploads. The Tapo app adds face management with a recognition report, an activity centre for following a specific person or pet, and smart playback by event type or timeline. AI detection for people, pets and vehicles is offered with no subscription required, and smart dynamic zoom and tracking zooms in and follows a target once movement is detected.

Mechanically the head pans through 326° for 360° pan coverage and tilts through 53° for 98° of tilt coverage. An upgraded panoramic patrol mode can scan the full 360° on a schedule and record, or visit specific viewpoints at set times; TP-Link notes that scanning and cruising times are limited each day. For darkness, two built-in spotlights and the starlight sensor capture colour detail, a stealthy IR black and white mode uses 850 nm LEDs, and smart mode moves to colour when a person is detected.

Networking is Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, plus an Ethernet port. TP-Link points out that 5 GHz is faster but has less range than 2.4 GHz, so the router must be within reach to use it. Setup can use Bluetooth onboarding in the Tapo app, with Wi-Fi onboarding also available. RTSP and ONVIF are supported, and the camera works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands.

Storage is a microSD card of up to 512 GB (purchased separately), which TP-Link estimates at 388 hours of 4K video, and the card can be password protected in the Tapo app. Tapo Care cloud storage requires a subscription, and a Tapo H500 (not included) offers local storage up to 16 TB depending on the drive fitted. The TC46 is IP66 rated, runs from -30 °C to 60 °C on a 12 V 1 A DC adapter, has a custom sound and light alarm with a 99 dB siren, and measures 147.4 x 74.7 x 165.4 mm including its mounting bracket.
