The TP-Link SG5452XMPP is an Omada 48-port gigabit stackable Lite L3 managed PoE++ switch with 4x 10G slots. It has eight 802.3bt PoE++ ports at up to 90 W and forty 802.3at PoE+ ports at up to 30 W from a 770 W total PoE budget, four 1/10 Gbps SFP+ slots, physical stacking of up to four units, Static Routing, RIP, OSPF, VRRP and DHCP Server/Relay, and centralised management through Omada SDN or standalone via web, CLI and SNMP.

SG5452XMPP overview

The SG5452XMPP is TP-Link's Omada 48-port gigabit stackable Lite L3 managed PoE++ switch with 4x 10G slots. TP-Link describes it as a dependable entry-level L3 managed PoE++ switch for the access layer, combining Layer 3 routing, 10 Gbps uplinks and stacking, and positions it as a reliable networking solution for SMEs and ISPs. Its 48 gigabit RJ45 ports split into eight PoE++ ports (ports 1 to 8, 802.3af/at/bt, up to 90 W each) and forty PoE+ ports (ports 9 to 48, 802.3af/at, up to 30 W each), sharing a 770 W total PoE budget. TP-Link notes the PoE budget is based on laboratory testing and the actual budget varies with client limitations and environmental factors. That covers wireless access points, surveillance cameras, IP phones and other PoE devices without separate power cabling. Perpetual PoE keeps powered devices running through switch reboots and firmware upgrades, and Fast PoE restores power to them straight after a shutdown and restart.

For uplinks there are four 1/10 Gbps SFP+ slots, and the switch delivers 176 Gbps switching capacity per unit, 130.94 Mpps forwarding, a 16K MAC address table, a 12 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. TP-Link notes only one 10G RJ45 SFP+ module (SM5310-T) can be inserted at a time. Up to four units can be physically stacked over the 10G SFP+ slots, with stacking bandwidth of up to 40 Gbps using a maximum of two stacking ports, for built-in redundancy and performance. The datasheet lists SG5428XF, SG5428X, SG5428XMPP, SG5452X and SG5452XMPP (all V1.20) as compatible models for stacking, and Multi-active Detection (MAD) among the stack features. The SFP+ slots work with TP-Link modules listed in the datasheet, such as the SM5110-SR and SM5110-LR 10G transceivers and the SM5220 10G direct attach cables.

Layer 3 features include Static Routing (up to 512 IPv4 and 128 IPv6 static routes), RIP v1/v2 and RIPng, OSPFv2 and OSPFv3, VRRP v2/v3, Proxy ARP and a DHCP Server with 64 IP pools, plus DHCP Relay. ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) provides rapid protection and recovery in ring topologies to keep the network up. For Layer 2 there are up to 4K 802.1Q VLANs, QinQ, private VLAN, voice VLAN, link aggregation (up to 64 LAGs with eight ports each), STP/RSTP/MSTP, IGMP and MLD snooping and MVR. Security covers IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs, Dynamic ARP Inspection, IP and IPv6 source guard, DHCP snooping, DoS defend, 802.1X with MAB and guest VLAN, port security with up to 64 MAC addresses per port, AAA including TACACS+, HTTPS and SSHv2. ISP features include 802.3ah Ethernet Link OAM, L2PT, DLDP, DDM and sFlow, and QoS offers eight priority queues with 802.1p and DSCP priority.

Integrated with Omada SDN, the SG5452XMPP gets centralised cloud management, automatic device discovery, batch configuration and firmware upgrades, intelligent network monitoring and abnormal event warnings; these functions require an Omada controller, and zero-touch provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. The controller versions listed are the Cloud-Based Controller 5.15.22 or later and the Hardware or Software Controller 5.15.20 or later. Standalone management is available through the web GUI, CLI over the RJ45 or USB Type-C console port or telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and RMON. The 1U rackmount body measures 440 x 330 x 44 mm, weighs 5.7 kg and is cooled by three fans with left-to-right airflow. It runs from 100-240 V AC and operates from -5 to 40 °C; maximum power consumption is 893.6 W at 220 V with 770 W of powered devices connected.
