The TP-Link TL-SG1210MP is a 10-port gigabit unmanaged desktop switch with 8-port PoE+. Ports 1 to 8 are 802.3af/at compliant with a 123 W PoE budget; a ninth gigabit RJ45 port and a 1000 Mbps SFP/RJ45 combo port provide uplinks. Extend Mode (ports 1 to 4, up to 250 m), Priority Mode (ports 1 to 2), Isolation Mode and PoE Auto Recovery are built in, in a fanless metal case.

TL-SG1210MP overview

The TL-SG1210MP is TP-Link's 10-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch with 8-Port PoE+. It has nine 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports plus one 1000 Mbps combo SFP/RJ45 port, all with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX. Ports 1 to 8 are PoE+ ports compliant with IEEE 802.3af/at, supporting up to 30 W on each PoE port within a total PoE power budget of 123 W. TP-Link positions it for surveillance in offices, dormitories and small businesses, and lists it as compatible with IP cameras, access points, IP phones, computers and printers. The combo port lets you uplink over copper or over fibre with a gigabit SFP module.

Three button-enabled modes cover common installation needs without any configuration. Extend Mode works on ports 1 to 4 and provides up to 250 m of PoE power supply and data transmission. Priority Mode prioritises the data of ports 1 and 2 to guarantee the quality of sensitive applications like video and voice. Isolation Mode divides traffic for ports 1 to 4 or 5 to 8 to avoid snooping or tampering and to isolate broadcast storms. PoE Auto Recovery on ports 1 to 8 automatically detects and reboots PDs such as cameras and APs when they fall offline or go unresponsive.

Intelligent power management protects the switch: when total consumption would exceed 123 W, power to lower-priority ports is cut so high-priority ports keep their supply, and the switch automatically detects and provides the power each device needs while protecting PoE and non-PoE equipment from damage. Power comes from an external adapter rated 53.5 V DC / 2.43 A. Maximum consumption is 7.93 W with no PD connected and 141.40 W with 123 W of PDs (220 V/50 Hz), with heat dissipation of 27.04 and 482.17 BTU/h.

Performance figures are 20 Gbps switching capacity, a 14.88 Mpps packet forwarding rate, a 4K MAC address table and 16 KB jumbo frames, with MAC address auto-learning and auto-aging and IEEE 802.3x flow control. The switch is fanless, has a physical security lock, and its interior components are protected by a high-quality metal casing that TP-Link says has passed stringent reliability tests. It measures 209 x 126 x 26 mm and is rated for 0 to 40 °C operation. In the box: the TL-SG1210MP, the power adapter and an installation guide.
