The TP-Link TL-SG105-M2 is a 5-port 2.5G multi-gigabit desktop switch. All five ports run at 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps, with 25 Gbps switching capacity, loop prevention, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP Snooping, in a fanless metal case for desk or wall mounting.

TL-SG105-M2 overview

The TL-SG105-M2 brings 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet to every port of a compact desktop switch. It has five 100 Mbps / 1 Gbps / 2.5 Gbps ports with auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX, and supports IEEE 802.3bz alongside 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3x and 802.1p. Switching capacity is 25 Gbps and the packet forwarding rate is 18.6 Mpps, with store-and-forward transmission, an 8 Mbit packet buffer, a 4K MAC address table and 12 KB jumbo frames. With 2.5G on all five ports, 2.5G-capable devices can link at 2.5 Gbps on any port, while 1 Gbps and 100 Mbps devices still connect on the same switch through auto-negotiation. All five ports are identical 100 Mbps / 1 Gbps / 2.5 Gbps ports, each with the same auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX support.

Its software features centre on keeping the network stable. Loop prevention automatically detects loops and blocks the corresponding port, and the port indicator flashes slowly to alert you, which TP-Link says makes it easy to monitor and address loop-related issues within your network. IEEE 802.3x flow control, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP Snooping are listed among the advanced features. Power and Link/Act indicators show the state of the switch and each port at a glance.

TP-Link builds the TL-SG105-M2 in a durable metal case, which it says allows efficient heat dissipation, excellent signal interference prevention and a long service life. It is fanless, which TP-Link says reduces noise and makes the switch ideal for noise-sensitive environments. You can stand it on a desk, using the rubber feet supplied, or mount it on a wall. It measures 209 x 126 x 26 mm (8.2 x 4.9 x 1.0 in). Power comes from an external adapter with a 9 VDC / 0.6 A output, and maximum power consumption is 5.64 W, with maximum heat dissipation of 19.18 BTU/h.

The switch is rated for operation from -5 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90 per cent RH non-condensing, and for storage from -40 to 70 degrees C at 5 to 90 per cent RH non-condensing. It carries CE and FCC certification. In the box are the 5-Port 2.5G Multi-Gigabit Desktop Switch TL-SG105-M2, a power adapter, an installation guide and rubber feet. ARC IP Networks supplies the TL-SG105-M2 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
