The TP-Link TL-SG1048 is a 48-port gigabit unmanaged rackmount switch. It provides 48 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports with auto MDI/MDIX and MAC address self-learning, 96 Gbps switching capacity, a 71.4 Mpps forwarding rate, a 16K MAC table, a 12 Mb buffer and 12 KB jumbo frames, in a standard 19-inch rack-mountable steel case.

TL-SG1048 overview

The TL-SG1048 is TP-Link's 48-Port Gigabit Rackmount Switch, and its datasheet describes it as a high-performance, low-cost, easy-to-use upgrade from an older network to 1000 Mbps. It provides forty-eight 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, each supporting auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, and it supports MAC address self-learning. TP-Link says the cable type does not matter and installation is plug and play with no configuring required. The AU product page shows hardware version V7, and the linked datasheet is the 7.0 edition.

Performance is scaled for 48 ports: 96 Gbps switching capacity, a 71.4 Mpps packet forwarding rate, a 16K MAC address table and 12 Mb of buffer memory, with 12 KB jumbo frames. The datasheet names a non-blocking switching architecture and 802.3x flow control for full duplex plus backpressure for half duplex, which TP-Link says alleviate congestion so the switch works reliably. Transmission is store-and-forward, and the listed standards are IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab and 802.3x.

Every port is gigabit RJ45 and remains compatible with 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps Ethernet devices. Auto-negotiation on each port senses whether the attached device runs at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps and adjusts for compatibility and performance, which TP-Link presents as a way to move to gigabit while protecting previous investment. Cabling requirements are UTP category 3, 4 or 5 for 10BASE-T and category 5, 5e or above for 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T, up to 100 m each.

The switch uses a standard 19-inch rack-mountable steel case measuring 440 x 220 x 44 mm, and rackmount kits and rubber feet come in the box with the power cord and installation guide. It runs from a 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz supply, with a maximum consumption of 28.21 W at 220 V/50 Hz and 96.20 BTU/h heat dissipation; Green Technology is listed among the advanced features. LEDs show power, speed, link and activity.

Operating temperature is 0 to 40 °C and storage -40 to 70 °C, with 10 to 90% RH non-condensing operating humidity. It is CE and FCC certified, and no physical security lock is listed. The specifications list no SFP slots and no PoE output.
