The TP-Link TL-SG1005P is a 5-port Gigabit unmanaged desktop switch with four 802.3af/at PoE+ ports and a 65 W total PoE budget, up to 30 W per port. Extend Mode on ports 1-2 reaches up to 250 m, PoE Auto Recovery reboots unresponsive devices on ports 1-4, and intelligent power management protects the budget. It is fanless, in a metal case.

TL-SG1005P overview

The TL-SG1005P is TP-Link's 5-port Gigabit desktop switch with four PoE+ ports and a 65 W budget. TP-Link's AU page title calls it a switch with 4-port PoE, but its specifications list ports 1 to 4 as 802.3af/at compliant and TP-Link's own overview describes it as a PoE+ switch that supports up to 30 W on each PoE port, so it powers both standard PoE and PoE+ devices. All five RJ45 ports run at 10/100/1000 Mbps with auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX. The AU product page shows hardware version 6, and the specification table gives separate V5 and V6 values where they differ.

The 65 W total power budget shared across the four PoE ports is what separates the TL-SG1005P from the 40 W TL-SG1005LP in the same 99.8 x 98 x 25 mm case. TP-Link says it suits surveillance for offices, dormitories and small businesses, and is compatible with IP cameras, access points, IP phones and more. When total consumption exceeds 65 W, intelligent power management cuts power to the lower-priority port to keep the higher-priority ports running and protect the switch from overload; it also detects and supplies the power each device needs, protecting PoE and non-PoE equipment from damage.

Two surveillance-oriented features are listed for this model. Extend Mode, enabled by a button, lets ports 1 and 2 deliver PoE power and data up to 250 m, which TP-Link calls perfect for IP camera deployment in large areas. PoE Auto Recovery on ports 1 to 4 automatically detects and reboots powered devices such as cameras and access points when they fall offline or go unresponsive, without manual monitoring or restarting. TP-Link describes this as system self-healing.

Power is supplied by an external adapter rated at 48 VDC / 1.25 A, and the box contains the switch, power adapter, power cord, rubber feet and installation guide. Maximum power consumption with no PD connected is 3.44 W; with a 65 W load it is 74.49 W on V5 and 74.88 W on V6 (220 V/50 Hz). Maximum heat dissipation is 11.73 BTU/h without a load and 254.01 BTU/h with 65 W connected. Jumbo frame support also differs by version: 16 KB on V5 and 9 KB on V6.

Switching capacity is 10 Gbps with a 7.44 Mpps forwarding rate, a 2K MAC address table and store-and-forward transmission, plus MAC auto-learning and auto-aging, 802.3x flow control, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP snooping. TP-Link says the metal casing protects the interior components for a long product life and that the switch has passed stringent reliability tests. It is fanless, rated for -5 to 40 degrees C operation (a slightly wider low end than the TL-SG1005LP's 0 degrees C) and -40 to 70 degrees C storage, with 10 to 90% RH operating humidity, and is FCC and CE certified.

It detects powered devices on ports 1 to 4 that fall offline or stop responding and reboots them automatically.

Intelligent power management cuts power to the lower-priority port so higher-priority ports stay powered and the switch is protected from overload.

The TL-SG1005LP has a 40 W budget and TP-Link does not list Extend Mode or PoE Auto Recovery for it. The TL-SG1005P has 65 W and both features.

TP-Link lists 16 KB jumbo frames for V5 and 9 KB for V6, and a maximum draw with a 65 W load of 74.49 W (V5) and 74.88 W (V6). The AU page shows V6.
