The TP-Link TL-SG1005D is a 5-port gigabit desktop switch with five 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX. It uses store-and-forward switching with 802.3x flow control and back pressure, adds 802.1p/DSCP QoS on V7 and later hardware, and runs fanless at a maximum of 3.67 W from a 5 VDC adapter.

TL-SG1005D overview

The TL-SG1005D is TP-Link's 5-port gigabit desktop switch. It has five 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, each with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, and supports 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps connections. Transmission is store and forward. The switch is fanless and measures 140 x 88 x 23 mm, and it is powered by an external power adapter with a 5 VDC / 0.6 A output, which is included. Maximum power consumption is 3.67 W (220 V / 50 Hz), with maximum heat dissipation of 12.51 BTU/hr.

TP-Link lists four advanced features for the TL-SG1005D. Green technology is listed among them. IEEE 802.3x flow control and back pressure are both supported. And 802.1p/DSCP QoS is available, with TP-Link's condition that it applies to V7 and later hardware versions. Because QoS depends on the hardware version, check the hardware version if traffic prioritisation is important to your setup. The TL-SG1005D does not have a physical security lock, according to TP-Link's specification.

TP-Link rates the TL-SG1005D for operation from 0 °C to 40 °C with 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 °C to 60 °C with 5% to 90% non-condensing humidity. It carries FCC and CE certification. In the box are the 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch TL-SG1005D, a power adapter and an installation guide. The full specification TP-Link publishes for the model, including interface, fan, power supply, dimensions, power consumption, heat dissipation, advanced features, transmission method, certification and environment, is reproduced in the specification table on this page.

If you are choosing between TP-Link's five-port gigabit desktop switches, the comparison below sets the TL-SG1005D beside the TL-SG105 using TP-Link's published specifications for each: the TL-SG105 lists IGMP snooping, loop prevention, 16 KB jumbo frames and a 100 x 98 x 25 mm footprint, while the TL-SG1005D is the wider 140 x 88 x 23 mm unit with back pressure listed among its features. Both have five 10/100/1000 Mbps ports, a fanless design and a 5 V / 0.6 A adapter. ARC IP Networks supplies the TL-SG1005D from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
