The TP-Link TL-SF1024D is a 24-port 10/100 Mbps desktop/rackmount switch: 24 RJ45 ports with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, 4.8 Gbps switching capacity, a 3.57 Mpps forwarding rate and an 8K MAC address table, in a fanless rack-mount size steel case with an internal power supply. It is plug and play, with no configuring required.

TL-SF1024D overview

The TL-SF1024D is TP-Link's 24-port 10/100 Mbps switch for desktop or rack installation. TP-Link describes it as a high-performance, low-cost, easy-to-use, seamless and standard upgrade to improve an old network to a 100 Mbps network. All 24 RJ45 ports support auto MDI/MDIX, which TP-Link says eliminates the need for crossover cables, and auto-negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (10 or 100 Mbps) and adjusts for compatibility. Installation is plug and play, with no configuring required. Supported standards are IEEE 802.3i, IEEE 802.3u and IEEE 802.3x.

TP-Link states that the TL-SF1024D features a non-blocking switching architecture and forwards and filters packets at full wire-speed for maximum throughput. The published figures are a 4.8 Gbps switching capacity, a 3.57 Mpps packet forwarding rate, an 8K MAC address table and 2 Mb of buffer memory, with store-and-forward transmission. IEEE 802.3x flow control for full-duplex mode and backpressure for half-duplex mode alleviate traffic congestion, which TP-Link says helps the switch work reliably. For cabling, TP-Link specifies UTP category 3, 4 or 5 for 10BASE-T and UTP category 5, 5e or above for 100BASE-TX, each up to 100 m.

The switch is built in a rack-mount size steel case with a safety-certified internal power supply, which TP-Link says makes it very cost-effective for a less than 24-user environment. It runs from 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, using the included power cord, and is fanless. Dimensions are 294 x 180 x 44 mm (11.6 x 7.1 x 1.7 in), it is rack mountable with the rackmount kit supplied, and rubber feet are included for desktop use. There is also a physical security lock. TP-Link lists a maximum power consumption of 3.19 W at 220 V / 50 Hz and a maximum heat dissipation of 10.88 BTU/h.

Under its green technology, TP-Link says the TL-SF1024D automatically adjusts power consumption according to the link status and cable length. It complies with the EU's RoHS directive, and TP-Link states that 80% of the packaging material can be recycled. Certification is FCC and CE. The operating range is 0 to 40 °C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, with storage from -40 to 70 °C at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. In the box are the 24-Port 10/100Mbps Desktop/Rackmount Switch, a power cord, an installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet. ARC IP Networks supplies the TL-SF1024D from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
