The TP-Link TL-SF1008D is an 8-port 10/100 Mbps desktop switch. All eight ports support auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX, it uses store-and-forward switching with IEEE 802.3x flow control and back pressure, and it is fanless with Green Technology, drawing a maximum of 2.05 W from its external 5 V adapter.

TL-SF1008D overview

The TL-SF1008D is TP-Link's 8-port 10/100 Mbps desktop switch. Each of its eight RJ45 ports runs at 10 or 100 Mbps with auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX. Data rates are listed as 10/100 Mbps at half duplex and 20/200 Mbps at full duplex. Standards and protocols are IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u and IEEE 802.3x, with CSMA/CD. Eight per-port LEDs plus a power LED are listed.

Switching uses the store-and-forward transmission method with a 768 Kb buffer. Flow control is provided by IEEE 802.3x flow control and back pressure. The switch also lists Green Technology among its advanced features. Maximum power consumption is 2.05 W (at 220 V / 50 Hz) and maximum heat dissipation is 6.99 BTU/h. The switch is fanless, and it is powered by an external power adapter with a 5.0 V DC / 0.6 A output that accepts 100 to 240 V AC at 50/60 Hz.

As a desktop switch it measures 134.5 x 79 x 22.5 mm (5.3 x 3.1 x 0.9 in). The port LEDs are numbered 1 to 8 to match the ports, alongside the power LED. The advanced features listed are Green Technology, IEEE 802.3x flow control and back pressure. If your devices need gigabit speeds, the comparison below with the TL-SG108 shows the main differences, each taken from TP-Link's published specifications for the two models. Certifications for the TL-SF1008D are FCC and CE.

The TL-SF1008D is rated for operating temperatures of 0 to 40 degrees C and storage temperatures from -40 to 60 degrees C, with 10 to 90% non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90% non-condensing storage humidity. In the box are the 8-port 10/100 Mbps desktop switch, a power adapter and an installation guide. In summary: eight auto-negotiating, auto-MDI/MDIX Fast Ethernet ports, store-and-forward switching, 802.3x flow control and back pressure, Green Technology, fanless operation and a 2.05 W maximum draw from a 5 V adapter. ARC IP Networks supplies the TL-SF1008D from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
