The TP-Link TL-SF1005LP is a 5-port 10/100 Mbps unmanaged desktop switch with four 802.3af PoE ports. Ports 1-4 share a 41 W PoE budget, Extend Mode pushes data and power up to 250 m (at 10 Mbps), and Priority Mode gives ports 1-2 precedence. It is fanless, has a security lock slot and needs no configuration.

TL-SF1005LP overview

The TL-SF1005LP is TP-Link's 5-port 10/100 Mbps desktop switch with 4-port PoE, the lower-power PoE model in its five-port Fast Ethernet range. It has five 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX; ports 1 to 4 deliver 802.3af PoE and transfer data and power on individual cables, while port 5 is the uplink. TP-Link lists a total PoE power supply of 41 W for all PoE ports, and the switch is compatible with IEEE 802.3af/at compliant powered devices. The LP in the name is the key difference from the TL-SF1005P: the TL-SF1005LP uses a 53.5 V DC / 0.81 A adapter and a 41 W budget, where the TL-SF1005P has a 1.31 A adapter and a larger budget. Four standard PoE IP cameras, IP phones or small access points are the typical load. TP-Link notes that PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing; the actual PoE power budget is not guaranteed and will vary as a result of client limitations and environmental factors.

Two front-panel modes adapt it to surveillance work. Extend Mode, for ports 1 to 4, gives up to 250 m data and power transmitting range, which reaches cameras well beyond the usual 100 m Ethernet limit. TP-Link notes that the speed of the ports in Extend Mode downgrades to 10 Mbps, and the actual transmission distance may vary due to the power consumption of PoE-powered devices or the cable quality and type. Priority Mode, for ports 1 and 2, ensures those ports have high priority so the quality of sensitive applications such as video is guaranteed. Other listed features are MAC address auto-learning and auto-aging, IEEE 802.3x flow control for full-duplex mode and backpressure for half-duplex mode, and store-and-forward transmission.

Performance figures are 1 Gbps switching capacity, a 0.744 Mpps packet forwarding rate, a 2K MAC address table and 2 KB jumbo frames. The switch is fanless and has a physical security lock slot. Maximum power consumption is 1.9 W with no PD connected and 47 W with 41 W of PDs connected (220 V / 50 Hz), and maximum heat dissipation is 6.48 BTU/h and 160.27 BTU/h respectively. It measures 100 x 98 x 25 mm (3.9 x 3.9 x 1.0 in). Operating temperature is 0 to 40 degrees C, storage -40 to 70 degrees C, operating humidity 10 to 90% RH and storage 5 to 90% RH, non-condensing. It is FCC and CE certified, and TP-Link's AU page shows hardware version V2. Cabling is UTP category 5 or 5e (or 100 ohm STP) up to 100 m for 100BASE-TX.
