The TP-Link TL-SF1005D is a 5-port 10/100 Mbps unmanaged desktop switch. Its five auto-negotiation RJ45 ports support auto MDI/MDIX, it uses Green Ethernet technology to save power, IEEE 802.3x flow control for reliable transfers and store-and-forward switching, and it is fanless with a maximum power draw of 1.87 W. It has no PoE and needs no configuration.

TL-SF1005D overview

The TL-SF1005D is TP-Link's 5-port 10/100 Mbps desktop switch, the simplest way to turn one network outlet into several. It has five 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, so each port matches the speed of the connected device and works with straight-through or crossover cables. Transmission is store and forward. This is a Fast Ethernet switch, not a Gigabit one, which suits printers, point-of-sale terminals, IP phones, set-top boxes and other devices that do not need more than 100 Mbps. Unlike the TL-SF1005LP and TL-SF1005P, which share the same five-port 10/100 Mbps layout, the TL-SF1005D has no PoE ports, so any connected devices need their own power.

TP-Link highlights Green Ethernet technology, which saves power consumption, and IEEE 802.3x flow control, which provides reliable data transfer in full-duplex mode, with back pressure listed as well. The switch is fanless, so it is silent on a desk or in a lounge cabinet. Power comes from an external power adapter with an output of 5.0 VDC / 0.6 A, and maximum power consumption is just 1.87 W (220 V / 50 Hz), with maximum heat dissipation of 6.38 BTU/h. The plastic desktop case measures 103.5 x 70 x 22 mm (4.1 x 2.8 x 0.9 in). TP-Link shows hardware version V18 on its AU page.

As an unmanaged switch the TL-SF1005D is plug and play, with no configuration required: connect an uplink from your router into any port and plug devices into the rest. There is no web interface, VLAN or QoS configuration. It is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C (32 to 104 degrees F) operating temperature, -40 to 60 degrees C storage, and 10 to 90% operating and 5 to 90% storage humidity, non-condensing. Certifications listed are FCC and CE. The box contains the 5-port 10/100 Mbps desktop switch, the power adapter and an installation guide.
