The TP-Link RE225BE is a BE3600 dual-band Wi-Fi 7 range extender with signal rates of 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 4K-QAM, 160 MHz channels and Multi-RUs. It has two external antennas, one 1 Gbps Ethernet port, range extender and access point modes, EasyMesh compatibility for one-name whole home Wi-Fi with a compatible router, WPA3 and setup in the TP-Link Tether app.

RE225BE overview

The RE225BE brings Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) to TP-Link's plug-in range extender range. It is dual band, supporting 802.11be/ax/ac/n/a on 5 GHz and 802.11be/ax/n/b/g on 2.4 GHz, with signal rates of 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz for the BE3600 rating, which TP-Link rounds to speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps. TP-Link describes Wi-Fi 7 as offering accelerated throughput, lower latency, stronger anti-jamming and higher efficiency, and the advanced features listed for this model are Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 160 MHz channels, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs. On the product page it pairs those with claims of ultra-smooth Wi-Fi with four times lower latency, higher transmission efficiency with 4K-QAM and higher capacity for more devices. As with every TP-Link wireless product, the rates quoted are maximum physical signal rates, and Wi-Fi 7 features only deliver their benefit with client devices that support them.

The job of the RE225BE is to extend reliable Wi-Fi 7 into areas your router cannot cover well. TP-Link says it connects seamlessly to your existing router, amplifies and extends the Wi-Fi signal to reach hard-to-cover spots, and reduces interference for a smoother, more consistent connection, whether in a home or an office. Two external antennas carry the signal. It is EasyMesh-compatible: pair it with an EasyMesh-compatible router and the two form seamless whole home Wi-Fi, which TP-Link summarises as a dead zone killer, smart roaming for uninterrupted streaming as you move around, and one Wi-Fi name so you no longer switch between networks. Without EasyMesh, a traditional router and extender pairing typically means managing separate network names.

Wired connectivity comes from one 1 Gbps Ethernet port. In Range Extender Mode, TP-Link suggests plugging a PC, smart TV or game console into it for a fast wired connection. In Access Point Mode, you connect the RE225BE to a router with a cable and it turns that 1 Gbps wired connection into a high-speed wireless signal, so it can add Wi-Fi 7 to a room that already has a network point. Range Extender and Access Point are the two working modes listed. The front carries a row of indicator LEDs, and there is a WPS button for one-touch connection plus a reset button.

Management is handled by the TP-Link Tether app, which TP-Link says lets you set up and manage your Wi-Fi, including TP-Link routers and range extenders, from an Android or iOS phone; a web interface over HTTP/HTTPS is also enabled by default. Wireless functions include LED control, access control, a power schedule and a Wi-Fi coverage setting, and security covers WPA/WPA2-PSK and WPA2/WPA3. The extender takes 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz, has a maximum power consumption of 15 W, measures 97 x 46 x 158 mm and operates at 0 to 40 degrees C in 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. The box contains the range extender and a quick installation guide.
