The TP-Link TL-PA8033P KIT is an AV1300 HomePlug AV2 powerline starter kit pairing a 3-port gigabit TL-PA8030P with a single-port TL-PA8010P. Both have an integrated AU passthrough power socket with a noise filter, 2x2 MIMO with beamforming uses all three household wires for up to 1300 Mbps over up to 300 m, and setup is plug and play.

TL-PA8033P KIT overview

The TL-PA8033P KIT is an AV1300 powerline starter kit built around TP-Link's HomePlug AV2 hardware, and it is not two identical adapters. The kit pairs one TL-PA8030P, which has three gigabit Ethernet ports and a power socket, with one TL-PA8010P, which has one gigabit Ethernet port and a power socket. The single-port TL-PA8010P connects to your router; the three-port TL-PA8030P goes in the room that needs wired connections, where TP-Link says it can connect up to three wired devices at once, such as a smart TV, a game console and a NAS or computer.

HomePlug AV2 gives the kit powerline data rates of up to 1300 Mbps. TP-Link's headline technology is 2x2 MIMO with beamforming: MIMO uses the three household wires, live, neutral and earth, to create multiple data paths for faster throughput and more stable connections, while beamforming maximises performance on the independent streams and improves coverage for previously hard-to-reach outlets. TP-Link notes that MIMO significantly improves rates especially during peak periods. The range is up to 300 m over the electrical circuit, and the adapters must be on the same circuit. Rates are theoretical physical maximums; real throughput depends on wiring, electrical noise and distance.

Because each adapter is a passthrough design, you do not lose the wall socket. The integrated AU power socket works like a normal outlet for another appliance or a power board, and a built-in noise filter helps prevent electrical noise from that appliance affecting powerline performance. TP-Link's specification table lists a power output of 10 A for the integrated socket, while the product overview says up to 16 A, so check the label on your unit before connecting a high-draw appliance. Each adapter measures 131 x 72 x 42 mm, and the power figures listed are 5.53 W maximum, 5.32 W typical and 1.36 W standby.

Setup is plug and play: connect a powerline adapter to the router, plug the other into a wall socket in another room and connect your devices by Ethernet. Press Pair on both for 128-bit AES security. The patented Power-Saving mode switches from Working to Power-Saving mode when attached devices are off, reducing consumption by up to 85%. The kit is compatible with all HomePlug AV and AV2 adapters. TP-Link's support page lists V2, V4 and V4.40 hardware. In the box: a TL-PA8030P, a TL-PA8010P, two 2 m Ethernet cables and a quick installation guide.
