The TP-Link TL-PA4010P KIT is an AV600 passthrough powerline starter kit: two adapters that turn your existing electrical wiring into a network with speeds up to 600 Mbps over up to 300 m, with no new wires or drilling. Each adapter has a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port, an integrated power socket and mains filter, a Pair button with 128-bit AES encryption, and a Power-Saving Mode.

TL-PA4010P KIT overview

The TL-PA4010P KIT is TP-Link's AV600 passthrough powerline starter kit. TP-Link says it turns your existing powerline into a high-speed network with no need for new wires or drilling. No configuration is required: plug the adapters into power sockets and the network is established. Using HomePlug AV technology, the kit provides data transmission rates of up to 600 Mbps over a household electric circuit for up to 300 metres (1000 feet) over existing electrical wiring. TP-Link describes it as a great choice for an easy-to-build multimedia entertainment network, and as a whole-home solution to connect network-compatible devices, from computers and game consoles to set-top boxes for IPTV, printers and NAS hard drives.

Each adapter has one 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port to connect a device, and an integrated power socket. TP-Link says the integrated socket allows an additional device or power bar to be connected to the adapter as though it were a normal wall socket, so no power outlet goes to waste with the kit plugged in. An integrated mains filter suppresses noise interference generated by surrounding electronic equipment, which TP-Link says improves powerline communication performance, so users won't experience a sudden speed drop when a larger power-consuming device is plugged into the socket.

Security and setup are handled by the Pair button on each adapter. TP-Link says you can set up a powerline network within minutes by plugging in, and the Pair buttons can be used for securing or managing multiple powerline adapters in your home powerline network. Traffic between adapters uses 128-bit AES encryption, and the modulation technology is OFDM. Supported standards are HomePlug AV, IEEE 802.3 and IEEE 802.3u. Status is shown by Power, Powerline and Ethernet LEDs.

For energy use, the adapters automatically switch from Working Mode to a Power-Saving Mode, which TP-Link says reduces energy consumption by up to 85%. Power consumption is listed as 5.00 W maximum, 4.60 W typical and 0.72 W in standby (220 V / 50 Hz). Each adapter measures 95 x 58 x 42 mm, and the kit operates from 0 to 40 °C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, with CE and FCC certification. In the box are two powerline Ethernet adapters, two RJ45 Ethernet cables and a quick installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the TL-PA4010P KIT from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
