The TP-Link VIGI NVR2016H is a 16-channel network video recorder without PoE ports. It handles 160 Mbps of incoming and outgoing bandwidth through a gigabit Ethernet port, takes two SATA hard drives of up to 16 TB each (not included) plus eSATA, provides independent 4K HDMI and VGA outputs, and adds six alarm inputs and four alarm outputs.

VIGI NVR2016H overview

The VIGI NVR2016H is TP-Link's 16-channel VIGI recorder without PoE and measures 330 x 285 x 45 mm, the same dimensions TP-Link lists for the NVR2016H-16P and NVR2016H-16MP. Compared with the compact NVR1016H it doubles the bandwidth to 160 Mbps incoming and 160 Mbps outgoing, moves to a 10/100/1000 Mbps self-adaptive Ethernet port, and adds a second drive bay and alarm terminals. Cameras connect over your network, powered by a separate PoE switch. The recorder itself uses a 12 V DC 3.3 A supply and draws up to 7.475 W without disks and 28.635 W with disks.

Storage is two SATA interfaces, each supporting a hard drive of up to 16 TB, plus one eSATA interface. TP-Link notes a hard disk drive (not included) must be installed for operation. Record resolutions run from 8MP to QCIF, and decoding is listed as ten channels at 1080p at 25 fps, or at 30 fps two channels at 8MP, four at 5MP, five at 4MP or six at 3MP. Sixteen channels can play back synchronously; TP-Link notes fewer than 16, or none, may play if the total resolution exceeds 20MP. Recording is manual, scheduled or motion triggered, with instant, regular, tag and event playback and regular or video clip backup.

Video outputs are one HDMI, up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz, and one VGA, up to 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, operating as independent outputs, with one to sixteen window layouts. Other connections include one front USB 2.0 and one rear USB 3.0 port, 1-channel RCA audio in and out, and six alarm inputs and four alarm outputs. TP-Link describes One-Click System Initialise, which handles quick camera additions, HDD initialisation and storage scheduling in a single click; its footnote on this page says the feature was due in Q4 2024, so confirm it on your firmware version.

Alarm detection, which requires a camera, covers motion, video tampering, scene change, line-crossing, intrusion, region entering and exiting, loitering, object abandoned or removed, vehicle and human detection, abnormal sound and Smart Frame, and anomaly alarms include a fan exception. Interoperability is ONVIF Profile S and CGI, and web access adds Safari 11+ alongside Chrome, Firefox and Edge. The unit weighs 2.0 kg net and, because of its weight, TP-Link recommends using a tray (not included) when rack mounting with angle iron. The package contains the recorder, power adapter, HDD power cable, HDD data cables, mounting accessories, mouse and quick installation guide.
