The TP-Link TL-MR105 is a 300 Mbps Wireless N 4G LTE router with an integrated 4G LTE modem and a nano SIM card slot. It supports LTE downloads of up to 150 Mbps, shares the connection over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with up to 32 devices, adds a 10/100 Mbps LAN port and a LAN/WAN port, and is plug and play: insert a nano SIM and turn it on.

TL-MR105 overview

The TL-MR105 is TP-Link's 300 Mbps Wireless N 4G LTE router. With an integrated 4G LTE modem and a built-in SIM card slot, TP-Link says all you need to do is insert a nano SIM card and turn the router on: no configuration is needed, it is plug and play. It takes advantage of a 4G LTE network to download at up to 150 Mbps and shares that connection with multiple Wi-Fi devices for HD movies, file downloads and video chats. The router is compatible with both FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE, which TP-Link says lets it work with most service providers worldwide, and it can also share a 3G connection.

Supported 4G FDD-LTE bands are B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20 and B28 (2100, 1800, 850, 2600, 900, 800 and 750 MHz), and TDD-LTE bands are B38, B40 and B41 (2600, 2300 and 2500 MHz). For 3G, DC-HSPA+, HSPA and UMTS are supported on B1, B5 and B8 (2100, 850 and 900 MHz). Two internal 4G/3G antennas handle the mobile connection, and TP-Link notes the TL-MR105 has been tested in the field for years for compatibility, with the two internal LTE antennas delivering a smooth connection. The router also provides two external SMA-F antenna interfaces. Check the bands your mobile provider uses against this list before deploying.

On the Wi-Fi side, the TL-MR105 is a 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n router with a 300 Mbps signal rate and two internal Wi-Fi antennas. TP-Link says it can share a 3G or 4G connection with up to 32 wireless devices, such as phones, tablets and laptops, at the same time. For wired devices like desktop computers there is one 10/100 Mbps LAN port and one 10/100 Mbps LAN/WAN port. The operating modes are 3G/4G Router and Wireless Router, and WAN failover is supported. In wireless router mode the WAN types are Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, and PPTP and L2TP with dual access.

Software features include parental controls that block websites, set surfing time limits, show which sites children use or pause the internet, and a 2.4 GHz guest network that gives visitors separate Wi-Fi access. Security comes from an IPv4 SPI firewall and IP and MAC address binding, with 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption. Port forwarding (ALG, virtual server, port triggering, UPnP, DMZ), dynamic DNS (TP-Link, DynDns, NO-IP), IPv4 and IPv6, and local and remote management are listed. TP-Link names home use and remote working. The router measures 174 x 130 x 60 mm, has a Reset/WPS button, and the box includes the router, power adapter, RJ45 Ethernet cable and quick installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the TL-MR105 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
