The TP-Link Deco X1500(3-pack) is an AX1500 whole home mesh Wi-Fi 6 system made up of three Deco X1500 units. TP-Link rates the three-unit kit for 3-5 bedroom houses and coverage of up to 5,600 ft² (520 m²), with connections for up to 120 devices. Each unit offers 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, two gigabit WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports, WPA3-Personal and Deco app management.

Deco X1500(3-pack) overview

This is the largest Deco X1500 kit TP-Link lists: three Deco X1500 units that join into one mesh network. TP-Link's coverage figures step up with each unit added, and for the 3-pack the official page gives up to 5,600 ft² (520 m²), alongside a specification rating of 3-5 bedroom houses. The same page puts device capacity at connections for up to 120 devices. These numbers come with TP-Link's usual caveat that maximum wireless signal rates are physical rates derived from IEEE 802.11 specifications, and that real throughput, coverage and the number of connected devices vary with network conditions, client limitations, building materials, obstacles, traffic volume and client location. If you are deciding between kits, TP-Link's smaller packs are rated for 2-4 bedroom houses (2-pack) and 1-2 bedroom houses (1-pack), so the 3-pack is the one aimed at larger, multi-room homes.

Inside each of the three units is a dual-band AX1500 radio. The 5 GHz band runs IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a with a top rate of 1201 Mbps (802.11ax), and the 2.4 GHz band runs IEEE 802.11n/b/g at 300 Mbps (802.11n), so Wi-Fi 6 is delivered on the 5 GHz band. TP-Link lists 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA and four streams per unit, with two internal antennas forming a signal-boosting array and beamforming to concentrate signal towards clients. The page credits BSS Colouring and Beamforming with removing weak signal areas, and describes OFDMA as making more efficient use of bandwidth for faster speeds, lower latency and better capacity. TP-Link adds that Wi-Fi 6 features such as OFDMA, MU-MIMO, 1024-QAM and BSS Colour need clients that also support them, and that this Deco may not support all mandatory features ratified in the IEEE 802.11ax specification.

With three units, wiring choices matter more than in a single-unit setup. Every Deco X1500 has two gigabit Ethernet ports with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, so the main unit connects to your modem or network termination device and each satellite still has ports for a TV, console or desktop. TP-Link Mesh Technology and optional Ethernet backhaul work together to link the units, so where you have cabling between rooms you can use it to connect Decos, and where you do not, the units link wirelessly. TP-Link describes the result as one unified network with a single Wi-Fi name, where a phone or tablet automatically connects to the fastest Deco as you move through the home; clients need to support 802.11k/v/r for this and may need additional setup. Deco's custom algorithms automate connections across the network to keep signal strength up. The system runs in Router Mode or Access Point Mode, and TP-Link states the Deco X1500 is compatible with every other Deco model, so a fourth unit of any Deco type can be added later.

The Deco app handles setup for all three units: unbox, install the app and follow the on-screen directions, and TP-Link says the app gets the network running in minutes. From the app you can see every connected device, prioritise your own, set up guest networks on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, and manage the system at home or away; one app manages all your Deco networks. For families, TP-Link lists weekly and monthly reports, Pause the Internet, family online time ranking, Time Rewards, Off Time, Bedtime and Family Time, built on custom profiles and a professional content filter library. Security features listed are an SPI firewall and access control, with WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal and WPA3-Personal Wi-Fi encryption. Networking extras are QoS by device, IPTV (IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge, tag VLAN), port forwarding, UPnP, TP-Link DDNS, DHCP address reservation, OTA firmware upgrades and IPv4 and IPv6. Voice control works with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant devices. The 3-pack box holds three Deco X1500 units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, three power adapters and a quick installation guide. Each unit measures 110 x 110 x 114 mm and operates from 0 to 40 °C.
