The TP-Link Deco BE65 Pro(1-pack) is a single BE11000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 Deco that works as a stand-alone router or as an extra node in a Deco mesh. Its difference from the standard Deco BE65 is the wired side: two 5 Gbps WAN/LAN ports and one 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, for internet plans up to 5 Gbps. Wi-Fi is rated at 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.

Deco BE65 Pro (1-pack) overview

The Deco BE65 Pro is the multi-gig variant of TP-Link's BE11000 Deco BE65 range, and the 1-pack contains a single unit: one Deco BE65 Pro, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, one power adapter and a quick installation guide. On its own it is a tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router for a smaller home or apartment, and because TP-Link says the BE65 Pro is compatible with every other Deco model, it also works as an add-on node to extend an existing Deco mesh, or as the main router you add satellites to later. The housing is the same 107.5 x 107.5 x 176 mm tower as the BE65, and the unit operates from 0 to 40 degrees C.

The 'Pro' is all about the ports. Where the standard Deco BE65 has four 2.5 Gbps ports, the BE65 Pro has two 5 Gbps WAN/LAN ports and one 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, all auto-sensing. TP-Link says the system supports gigabit-plus and multi-gig internet service plans up to 5 Gbps, and lists PCs, smart TVs and game consoles as the devices to plug in for fast wired connections. Its notes add that 5 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps internet speeds require compatible plans and equipment, and that only one port can be the WAN at a time. A USB port supports an FTP server, media server and Samba server. In a mesh, a 5 Gbps port can also carry wired backhaul, and TP-Link says the BE65 Pro can run a wireless and a wired backhaul to each unit simultaneously, with MLO increasing the combined backhaul aggregation flow rate.

Wireless performance is rated BE11000: 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz and 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz using 802.11be, and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, giving TP-Link's figure of up to 11 Gbps. Four internal high-performance antennas, 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA and six streams serve clients, and TP-Link credits BSS (Base Service Station) Coloring and beamforming for clearer, stronger signal to reduce weak-signal areas. Wi-Fi 7 features are Multi-Link Operation, 320 MHz channels, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs. TP-Link quotes connection of up to 200 devices from laboratory testing, and notes that 320 MHz is only available on 6 GHz, that 240 MHz may be unavailable on 5 GHz in Australia due to regulatory restrictions, and that clients must support each feature. All rates are maximum physical signal rates, and real throughput varies with your provider and environment.

Setup is done in the Deco app in three steps, and the same app handles device lists, prioritisation, guest networks on 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz with time and bandwidth control, and remote management. HomeShield adds an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, intrusion prevention, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, plus parental controls with profiles, content filtering, YouTube restriction, SafeSearch, family time, bedtime and reports; TP-Link notes advanced HomeShield features need a paid subscription. A separate IoT network with WPA3 can isolate smart devices, and the BE65 Pro runs OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec as both server and client. Also listed: Router and Access Point modes, AI-Roaming with 802.11k/v/r, QoS by device, IPTV (IGMP proxy, snooping, bridge, tag VLAN), static routing, port forwarding, UPnP, IPv6, TP-Link DDNS, OTA firmware upgrades, Tapo/Kasa onboarding and Alexa or Google Assistant voice control.
